(PRESS RELEASE) ESSEN, 26-Jan-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — thyssenkrupp (ETR: TKA), a German multinational industrial engineering and steel production conglomerate, announces that thyssenkrupp Materials de México, a leading provider of materials and services, inaugurated its state-of-the-art service center in San Luis Potosí on January 25, 2024. With a total investment of $37 million USD, the facility is set to create around 65 new jobs and plays a pivotal role in supporting the growing automobile supply industry in the region. This investment is part of thyssenkrupp Materials Services’ strategic expansion in North America, where it has invested over $100 million USD in the last 15 months. The San Luis Potosí center joins three other facilities in Saltillo, Puebla, and Silao, making it one of only two sites in Mexico to offer steel and aluminum blanking line services. The site’s advanced capabilities, including a Schuler cutting line, cater to the evolving needs of the automotive industry, with a focus on sustainability, electromobility, and supply chain resilience.

Martin Stillger, CEO of thyssenkrupp Materials Services, emphasized the importance of the San Luis Potosí site, stating, “The needs and requirements of the industry are changing rapidly. Here we can support customers with our ‘ Materials as a Service’ strategy, precisely in these key areas.”

The new facility boasts exclusive services for the automotive industry, with a cutting-edge Schuler line designed to handle aluminum and high-strength steel used in vehicle manufacturing. The lightweight properties of aluminum contribute to reducing emissions and align with the industry’s shift toward electric mobility and stricter emission standards. thyssenkrupp Materials de México’s expansion addresses the surging demand from the automotive sector, as Mexican suppliers increasingly rely on the country for sales.

Olaf Voss, CEO of thyssenkrupp Materials de México, highlighted the collaborative effort and the plant’s strategic significance, stating, “With the opening of the plant we will be able to further expand our unique position in this processing service in the Mexican market. We appreciate the good collaboration with the Secretariat of Economic Development of San Luis Potosí on this important project.”

The facility’s location near major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and industry suppliers ensures shorter delivery routes and facilitates “just-in-time” deliveries, bolstering sustainability and profitability. The center’s commitment to sustainability extends to its design, with solar panel-ready roofing and solar-powered exterior lighting, demonstrating thyssenkrupp Materials Services’ dedication to environmentally responsible practices.
