Stora Enso’s Trayforma BarrPeel offers sustainable packaging solution for fresh food

(IN BRIEF) Stora Enso has launched Trayforma BarrPeel, a new board material for vacuum skin packs, which allows packaging of fresh food on recyclable paperboard trays. The solution reduces plastic to less than 10% of the tray, and is made up of 90% renewable wood fibres, significantly reducing the packaging’s carbon footprint. Trayforma BarrPeel is an ideal solution for vacuum packaging cold cuts, single portion meats, fish, and cheese, and its special surface allows the overlaying polymer skin film to be easily peeled, providing packagers with an affordable solution that satisfies the increasing consumer demand for sustainable packaging materials. The material will be showcased at Interpack 2023.

(PRESS RELEASE) HELSINKI, 26-Apr-2023 — /EuropaWire/ —Stora Enso (HEL: STERV), a leading provider of renewable solutions in packaging, biomaterials, wooden constructions and paper, has developed a new sustainable barrier-coated paperboard material for pressed trays called Trayforma BarrPeel.

This material enables fresh food to be packaged on recyclable paperboard trays using vacuum skin packs, with plastic usage reduced to less than 10% of the tray. Trayforma BarrPeel is made up of 90% renewable wood fibers, making it an ideal solution for vacuum packaging cold cuts, single portion meats, fish, and cheese, and significantly reducing the packaging’s carbon footprint.

The special surface of Trayforma BarrPeel material allows for easy peeling of the overlaying polymer skin film, providing an affordable solution for packagers to meet the increasing consumer demand for sustainable packaging materials. The product is already commercially available, and will be showcased at Interpack in Messe Düsseldorf from May 4-10, at Stora Enso’s Hall 9, stand B20.
