Marks and Spencer Expands Value Food Range with Price Cuts on Key Vegetable Staples to Attract Family Shoppers

(IN BRIEF) Marks and Spencer has expanded its Remarksable Value and Dropped and Locked ranges by adding 22 vegetable staples and reducing prices on 19 items, as part of its strategy to attract more family shoppers and respond to increasing demand for healthy yet affordable food options. The move reflects broader consumer trends toward plant-based eating and value-conscious shopping, while maintaining the retailer’s focus on quality and sourcing standards. With over 140 products now in the Remarksable Value range and a strong network of British growers, M&S aims to strengthen its position as a leading retailer for healthy choices. The initiative also supports the company’s wider growth plans and efforts to improve value perception among customers.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 17-Apr-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Marks and Spencer is expanding its value-focused food offering by introducing 22 everyday vegetable staples into its Remarksable Value and Dropped and Locked ranges, reinforcing its commitment to delivering quality and affordability for customers. The move reflects a broader strategy to attract more family shoppers while responding to changing consumer priorities around health and value.

As part of this initiative, the retailer has reduced prices on 19 key vegetable products, including chestnut mushrooms, sweet potatoes, and leeks. The expansion increases the Remarksable Value range to more than 140 items, all designed to provide trusted pricing without compromising on the sourcing standards and quality associated with the brand.

The development comes as consumer behavior continues to shift toward healthier eating habits. Research indicates that shoppers are placing greater emphasis on fresh, high-quality ingredients while remaining mindful of cost. A growing number of households are also adopting plant-forward diets, with a strong preference for incorporating vegetables and plant-based ingredients into everyday meals.

Marks and Spencer is leveraging its extensive network of over 1,000 Select Farm growers to supply fruit and vegetables that meet high quality standards, including exclusive products such as Isle of Wight tomatoes and early seasonal British produce like asparagus and Jersey Royal potatoes. The company is also working toward a long-term sustainability goal, aiming for all fresh British produce to be sourced from farms using regenerative agricultural practices by 2030.

The retailer’s focus on value is part of a wider transformation strategy aimed at expanding its food business and increasing its appeal to families. Investments in key staple products, including earlier pricing adjustments on items such as beef mince, have contributed to improved perceptions of value among consumers, with more households considering M&S for their regular grocery shopping.

Alex Freudmann, Managing Director of Food at Marks and Spencer, emphasized that vegetables remain central to weekly shopping habits and that lowering prices on essential items enables more families to access high-quality produce. Tom Berry, Director at Kokoro Insights, noted that brands that successfully combine affordability with healthy options are best positioned to meet current consumer expectations.

Recent data suggests that the retailer has attracted over 920,000 additional households to its food business over the past year, highlighting growing momentum as it continues to invest in value-driven offerings.
