Maersk and Danone Join Forces to Slash Emissions in Global Logistics with ECO Delivery Ocean Partnership

(IN BRIEF) Maersk and Danone have partnered to cut greenhouse gas emissions in Danone’s logistics operations by using Maersk’s ECO Delivery Ocean service, which relies on bio-based fuels made from waste feedstocks. This collaboration, part of Danone’s commitment to reach net-zero emissions by 2050, reduces GHG emissions by over 40% compared to fossil fuels and also includes inland logistics support. Maersk, targeting net zero by 2040, is providing sustainable shipping solutions that align with Danone’s decarbonization strategy.

(PRESS RELEASE) COPENHAGEN, 29-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Maersk and Danone have announced a partnership aimed at reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Danone’s seaborne logistics by utilizing Maersk’s ECO Delivery Ocean solution. This sustainable shipping option, powered by reduced-GHG fuels such as bio-diesel and bio-methanol sourced solely from waste feedstocks, enables Danone to cut emissions by over 40% compared to traditional fossil fuels.

Danone’s Global Chief Procurement Officer, Jean-Yves Krummenacher, highlighted the importance of this collaboration, noting that Maersk’s ECO Delivery aligns well with Danone’s decarbonization goals. The partnership is part of Danone’s broader commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, as outlined through the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a goal it has pursued since 2017. Maersk, on a similar trajectory with an SBTi-approved pathway, has committed to achieving net zero by 2040, setting an industry precedent in logistics.

Emilio de la Cruz, Maersk’s Area Managing Director for South West Europe, emphasized the significance of this partnership in demonstrating effective ways for companies to decarbonize supply chains. Beyond ocean transport, the partnership also encompasses inland logistics solutions and dedicated control towers to ensure smooth and sustainable operations across Danone’s supply chain.
