(PRESS RELEASE) FREIBURG, 6-Jun-2019 — /EuropaWire/ — Over 450 leading researchers on robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) expected to gather in Freiburg, Germany for the “Robotics: Science and Systems” conference. More than 100 scientific lectures on robotics, artificial intelligence and machine learning will be presented during the 5 days of the conference in Freiburg between June 22 and 26, 2019 at the University of Freiburg.

Among other findings, ideas and questions 1] intelligent systems that learn and solve increasingly complex tasks from the ground up with little to no prior knowledge, 2] land, air and sea robots that help emergency forces save lives and work under extreme conditions, and 3] research on “soft” robots with thin artificial muscles and functional surfaces for medical applications will be discussed on the AI / robotics conference.

A press conference, which is part of the international conference “Robotics: Science and Systems 2019”, will be held on Monday, June 24, 2019, 6pm, in the Messe Freiburg (convention center), conference room 10 (2nd floor), Entrance SICK-Arena / Hall 4, Neuer Messplatz 1, 79108 Freiburg.

Speakers, among other national and international experts, will be Prof. Dr. Wolfram Burgard, University of Freiburg and Prof. Dr. Maren Bennewitz, University of Bonn. Prof. Dr. Burgard is from the Department of Computer Science at the University of Freiburg. He is also Vice President for Automated Driving Technology at the Toyota Research Institute in Los Altos, USA and spokesperson for the Cluster of Excellence BrainLinks-BrainTools at the University of Freiburg as well as President of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, which is the largest international association in robotics and local organizer of the conference.
