Cisco and Snam sign IIoT agreement

(PRESS RELEASE) ROMA, 8-May-2019 — /EuropaWire/ — Cisco and Snam will be joining forces to develop joint research, development and innovation initiatives in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) sector and train future generations of digital professionals. In order to facilitate their partnership, the companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding. At the agreement signing ceremony were present Marco Alverà, CEO of Snam, Chuck Robbins, CEO of Cisco Inc., Agostino Santoni, CEO of Cisco Italia and Cosma Panzacchi, Snam Digital Transformation & Technology Executive Vice President.

Withing the scope of the IIoT agreement is the creation of innovative Internet of Things technology solutions for infrastructure (Industrial Internet of Things for networks). The companies will also be providing, as part of their agreement, training for workers and students aimed at preparing them for the digital professions of the future. The training will include digital and general development courses aimed at both the professional world and schools, with a particular focus on topics such as data science, artificial intelligence and robotics.

Furthermore, the IIoT partnership between Cisco and Snam will potentially extend to include things like smart 4.0 sensors that will optimize the monitoring and maintenance of infrastructures, state-of-the-art Fog Computing technologies and new connectivity systems aimed at making energy networks more intelligent and efficient.

The benefits derived from the work of Cisco and Snam under their IIoT cooperation will also include positive impact for communities that will lead to the potential creation of new services related to the circular economy, environmental sustainability and safety.
