Philips adds Carestream’s cloud-based enterprise imaging informatics  platform to its expanded radiology informatics portfolio

(PRESS RELEASE) AMSTERDAM, 7-Mar-2019 — /EuropaWire/ — Royal Philips will add Carestream’s cloud-based enterprise imaging informatics platform to its expanded radiology informatics portfolio. This will happen through the acquisition Philips has just announced for the Healthcare Information Systems business of Carestream Health Inc. 

US-based Carestream Health Inc. provides medical imaging and healthcare IT solutions for hospitals, imaging centers and specialty medical clinics.

The deal will reinforce Philips’ commitment to deliver industry-leading medical imaging and healthcare IT solutions to enhance patient care and improve provider productivity.

Following the acquisition, Carestream’s cloud-based enterprise imaging platform will augment Philips’ current radiology informatics offering for imaging data management, workflow enhancement, and advanced visualization and analysis.

Carestream’s cloud-based enterprise imaging platform includes state-of-the-art Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA), diagnostic and enterprise viewers, multimedia reporting, workflow orchestrator and clinical, operational and business analytics tools. 

The current enterprise imaging solutions of Philips combine deep clinical and informatics expertise with technological innovation to securely connect patients, care teams, and data across entire health systems. Adaptive intelligence is used in its visualization and analysis applications to support the clinician at the point-of-care by providing clinical insights and improving collaboration among clinical teams. 

Further synergy will be achieved between Carestream’s Healthcare Information Systems business and installed base in Latin America, Europe and Asia and Philips’ market positions in high-end radiology informatics in North America.

The Healthcare Information Systems business employs approximately 900 people and they will become part of Philips’ Healthcare Informatics business within the Diagnosis & Treatment segment. 

The following businesses of Carestream are not included in the sale of Healthcare Information Systems business to Philips: the company’s medical imaging, dental and industrial films, non-destructive testing, and the precision coating.

Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed and the deal is expected to close in the second half of 2019 as it is subject to customary closing conditions, including the relevant regulatory approvals.
