FIGO welcomes new Chief Executive Prof Mary Ann Lumsden

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 07-Jan-2020 — /EuropaWire/ — FIGO (International Federation Gynecology and Obstetrics) announces the appointment of Prof Mary Ann Lumsden as Chief Executive.

Prof Lumsden is the Clinical Lead for Reproductive and Maternal Medicine and also, a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the University of Glasgow. She also recently relinquished her position as the Senior Vice President for Strategy at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in London.

Prof Lumsden has more than 25 years of experience as a senior Clinical Academic in Glasgow where her current research interests include menopause and menstrual disorders as well as chronic disease prevention in women in mid-life. She has published extensively on these topics in peer-reviewed journals. Prof Lumsden also has considerable experience of developing Guidelines. She was Chair of the Guidelines Development Group for the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Guideline ‘Menopause: Investigation and Management’.

In 2017, she was awarded an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) for Services to Women’s Health, recognising her success in this field.

Prof Lumsden has extensive experience of collaborative projects overseas particularly in South Asia which she visits frequently. She was was International lead for the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences at the University of Glasgow. She is currently Immediate Past President of the International Menopause Society (2016-2018) and was Vice Chair of the Women’s Health Expert Advisory Group to the Medicine and Hormones Regulatory Authority (2012-2017).
