Indra Group to Deploy 247 Controller Working Positions for Skyguide Under Swiss Air Traffic Communications Modernisation Project

(IN BRIEF) Indra Group has secured a strategic contract from Skyguide to modernise air traffic communication systems at the Geneva and Zurich sites using its advanced GAREX 300 digital Voice over IP communication platform. The project includes the full design, integration and deployment of the system across key operational environments such as Area Control Centres, control towers, approach control operations and apron management at Zurich Airport. Indra Group will deploy 247 operational controller working positions, combining production systems, testing capabilities and training environments to support a low-risk implementation and smooth operational transition. The contract also includes advanced training for controllers and technical staff, a real-time operational validation system and 15 years of support and maintenance. By introducing a unified, future-ready communications architecture, the system will help Skyguide manage rising air traffic demand with improved safety, efficiency, resilience and reliability, while reinforcing Indra Group’s global leadership in Air Traffic Management technology.

(PRESS RELEASE) MADRID, 27-May-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Indra Group has been awarded a strategic contract by Skyguide, Switzerland’s air navigation service provider, to modernise critical air traffic communication systems at the Geneva and Zurich sites with an advanced digital Voice over IP communication platform.

The project will see Indra Group deliver the full design, integration and deployment of its GAREX 300 communication system at two of Switzerland’s most important aviation locations. The solution is designed to support highly reliable voice communications between air traffic controllers and pilots, strengthening safety, operational continuity and efficiency across key Swiss air traffic environments.

Through this contract, Indra Group reinforces its global position in Air Traffic Management technology while becoming a key partner in the continued digital transformation of Swiss airspace. The new system will provide Skyguide with a fully digital Voice over IP architecture based on advanced technology and designed for high availability, resilience and long-term operational performance.

The deployment will cover critical air traffic environments including Area Control Centres, control towers and approach control operations in Zurich and Geneva. The scope also includes apron management operations at Zurich Airport, as well as the central coordination of the voice communication systems rollout across Switzerland.

As part of the project, Indra Group will provide advanced training for controllers and technical personnel, along with a real-time operational validation system. The contract also includes 15 years of support and maintenance, ensuring long-term system reliability and continuous technical backing for Skyguide’s operations.

In total, Indra Group will deploy 247 operational controller working positions. These will bring together production systems, testing capabilities and training environments within a single integrated model. The approach is designed to reduce implementation risk, support a smooth transition and ensure dependable operations and communications from the first day of service.

The modernisation of Skyguide’s air traffic communications infrastructure will establish a unified and future-ready voice communication architecture for Switzerland. The system will help Skyguide manage growing air traffic demand with greater safety, efficiency and resilience, while supporting the long-term evolution of the country’s aviation network.

Voice communications remain one of the most critical elements of air traffic safety, enabling clear, secure and uninterrupted exchanges between controllers and pilots. Indra Group brings extensive experience in this area, with advanced technologies designed to deliver high availability, operational resilience and next-generation audio quality in highly demanding environments.

The company’s GAREX 300 Voice over IP communication system has already been deployed at major aviation sites around the world, including Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport. These international references underline Indra Group’s role as a trusted technology partner for air navigation service providers seeking robust, scalable and future-ready communications infrastructure.

With the Skyguide contract, Indra Group further strengthens its position as a leading provider of voice communication systems for air traffic environments and continues to expand its role in supporting the digital transformation of aviation operations worldwide.
