Suez Wins Ten-Year Contract to Modernize Kochi’s Water Network and Deliver 24×7 Service

(IN BRIEF) Suez has secured a ten-year, performance-based contract with the Kerala Water Authority—funded by the Asian Development Bank and Kerala government—to upgrade and operate Kochi’s water distribution network for 700,000 people. The project covers 95 km², involves replacing deteriorated pipes, adding 146,500 connections, and achieving continuous pressurized supply while cutting water losses to 20 percent. Suez will implement remote meter reading, RoPES monitoring, and SCADA control, handling operations, maintenance, leak detection, and customer support; KWA will manage billing and revenue. Leadership from both organizations emphasize the initiative’s role in securing safe, reliable water and deploying innovative technologies for sustainable urban water management.

(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS, 25-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Suez has been awarded a performance-based contract by the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) to upgrade, operate, and maintain the Kochi City water supply system under the Kerala Urban Water Services Improvement Programme (KUWSIP). Jointly financed by the Asian Development Bank and the Government of Kerala, this ten-year agreement targets modernization of Kochi’s water distribution network to serve nearly 700,000 residents.

Covering some 95 km² within the Kochi Municipal Corporation, Suez will rehabilitate aging pipes, expand 146,500 service connections, and deliver 24×7 pressurized water to meet national benchmarks—reducing Non-Revenue Water losses to 20 percent. These enhancements will bolster resource sustainability and strengthen the long-term resilience of Kochi’s infrastructure.

To optimize production and supply, Suez will deploy cutting-edge solutions such as remote meter-reading for industrial and commercial users, its RoPES real-time performance monitoring system, and SCADA-enabled network control. The scope includes routine operations, preventive and reactive maintenance, active leak detection and repair, and customer complaint management, while KWA retains responsibility for meter reading, billing, and revenue collection.

“This initiative is a step toward securing 24/7 access to safe and reliable drinking water for the people of Kochi. It reflects our commitment to improving everyday life through better water services,” said Jeevan Babu K. IAS, Managing Director of KWA.

Pierre Pauliac, Interim Co-CEO & COO Water at Suez, added: “We are proud that the Kerala Water Authority has entrusted us to enhance water access and quality in Kochi. As urban demand grows, our innovative technologies will help monitor production, prevent losses, and ensure sustainable service delivery. This contract underscores Suez’s five decades of service excellence in India.”
