Skanska Hosts CEO Alliance Meeting for Accelerating Europe’s Climate Transition

Their goal is to expedite the climate transition and enhance Europe’s industrial competitiveness. The CEO Alliance, consisting of ten prominent European companies, including Skanska, AAB, E.ON, Enel, Ericsson, Iberdrola, Scania, Schneider Electric, and Volkswagen, focuses on reducing CO2 emissions and creating business models that facilitate the transition to a fossil-free society. Skanska’s CEO, Anders Danielsson, emphasized the importance of collective efforts between EU member states and public-private collaboration to achieve a sustainable and resilient Europe with reduced emissions. The meeting took place at the ESS research facility, constructed in partnership with Skanska, set to become the world’s most powerful accelerator-based neutron source by the end of 2027, facilitating research across various fields to address global challenges like energy, healthcare, and sustainability.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 2-Feb-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — On February 1, 2024, Skanska hosted the CEO Alliance meeting at European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden. During the day, the CEOs of the member companies gathered to discuss joint strategies for sustainable business development and innovation, with the aim of accelerating the climate transition and increasing Europe’s industrial competitiveness.

The CEO Alliance unites companies from a wide range of industries. The common denominator is their dedicated focus on how each industry can reduce its CO2 emissions in all scopes and create business models that can speed up the transition to a fossil-free society.

The meeting was held at ESS (European Spallation Source), the research facility under construction in Lund, Sweden, with its data management and software centre in Copenhagen, Denmark. The civil construction of ESS was realized in partnership with Skanska, and successfully completed in 2022. At the end of 2027, when the overall construction of the facility will be completed, ESS will be the world’s most powerful accelerator-based neutron source. Thousands of researchers from academia and industry will use the ESS facility to learn more about materials and biological systems, unlocking discoveries and driving innovative solutions to tackle global challenges, from energy to healthcare and sustainability.
