Professor Philip Baker Appointed UEA Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Medicine and Health Sciences, Strengthening NHS and Research Collaborations

(IN BRIEF) Professor Philip Baker has been appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor of UEA’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, bringing significant experience in leading medical faculties globally. His appointment aims to strengthen the faculty’s teaching and research capabilities, in close collaboration with Norwich Research Park and NHS partners.

(PRESS RELEASE) NORWICH, 9-Nov-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — The University of East Anglia (UEA) has announced the appointment of Professor Philip Baker as Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, effective February 2025. Professor Baker, who is currently Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Enterprise at the University of Leicester, brings a wealth of international experience to his new role, having previously led medical faculties and research centers in the UK, Canada, New Zealand, and China.

The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at UEA is closely connected to the Norwich Research Park, which includes the Quadram Institute, the John Innes Centre, the Earlham Institute, The Sainsbury Laboratory, and the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) NHS Trust.

UEA Vice-Chancellor Professor David Maguire welcomed the appointment, saying, “Philip’s experience and leadership will further strengthen our faculty’s reputation for excellence in teaching and research. I also extend my gratitude to Professor Charles ffrench-Constant, who has made remarkable contributions to the Faculty, particularly in advancing research in sustaining health and establishing UEA’s first MRC Impact Accelerator Award.”

NNUH NHS Foundation Trust Chief Executive Professor Lesley Dwyer added, “Professor Baker’s depth of expertise will be invaluable in fostering innovation within the Faculty and enhancing our collaborative work with the NHS.”
