Metso Opens Advanced Dewatering Hub in Irapuato, Bolstering Global Filtration and Customer Service Capabilities

(IN BRIEF) Metso has launched its advanced Dewatering Development Hub in Irapuato, Mexico, on April 10, 2025, marking a significant milestone in its pursuit of enhanced customer service and innovation. The facility manufactures polymer filter plates for both internal and third-party equipment, and its strategic location in central Mexico bolsters support for the Americas market while reaching global customers in regions such as Asia-Pacific and Africa. The hub’s design enables reduced response times, environmental advantages, and reliable delivery, contributing to Metso’s competitive positioning. Besides manufacturing, the hub strengthens product development efforts by facilitating the exploration of alternative and recycled materials and allowing flexible pilot production. The investment, totaling around EUR 45 million, is implemented on an extensive site that also benefits from nearby Metso factories and a new distribution center, creating synergistic efficiencies. Employee safety and a sustainable work environment are prioritized at the facility, which incorporates advanced safety measures and renewable energy sources, including solar power, to aid Metso’s net-zero CO₂ emissions goal by 2030. Key executives, including Giuseppe Campanelli and Tomas Hakala, emphasized the strategic importance of the hub in strengthening Metso’s dewatering and filtration capabilities and its overall mission to drive innovation and operational efficiency. With the new hub, Metso continues to expand its global footprint in filtration technology, complementing its centers in Finland and China, and reinforcing its position as a leader in the industry.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESPOO, 11-Apr-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Metso has officially inaugurated its state-of-the-art Dewatering Development Hub in Irapuato, Mexico, enhancing its competitive edge and customer service capabilities in the region. Opened on April 10, 2025, the new facility is strategically located in central Mexico and is designed to cater to a wide range of dewatering solutions. It offers faster response times, environmental benefits, and improved delivery reliability for customers. The inauguration event brought together customers, stakeholders, and employees to celebrate the launch.

The new hub primarily manufactures polymer filter plates for both sub-assemblies and new equipment, sourced from Metso and other suppliers, while also boosting product development efforts. Although its focus is on meeting the needs of the Americas market, the facility also supports global regions including Asia-Pacific and Africa.

Giuseppe Campanelli, President for North and Central America at Metso, stated, “Our new hub in Mexico marks a major milestone in enhancing our customer service capabilities. It reinforces our dedication to innovation and excellence, providing tailored solutions that support our customers’ operational success and sustainability. With the capacity to support the entire filter portfolio for mining and various process industries, the hub leverages our extensive expertise in dewatering technology.”

Tomas Hakala, Senior Vice President of Beneficiation, Dewatering and Hydrometallurgy Services at Metso, added, “Polymer filter plates are both strategic and critical. Our investment underscores our commitment to pioneering and innovative solutions for our customers. We are excited to achieve this milestone, which will further strengthen our offerings and operational efficiency. By optimizing capacity management and production planning throughout our filter plate manufacturing ecosystem, we aim to lead in efficiency and innovation.”

The hub also places emphasis on product development by enhancing existing product features and exploring the use of alternative and recycled materials alongside virgin raw materials. Its proximity to production allows development experts to flexibly utilize pilot production capabilities. The facility, spread over an 18,000+ m² lot with more than 8,500 m² dedicated to production and warehousing, represents an investment of approximately EUR 45 million. Originally announced in 2022, construction began in September 2023.

In addition to the new hub, Metso’s presence in Irapuato includes existing rubber and Poly-Met™ and screening media factories, which create operational synergies. Moreover, the company is expanding its regional capacity with the opening of a new distribution center in the area.

Employee safety and environmental sustainability are key priorities at the new facility. The facility’s operational model and layout have been designed to meet high-level safety standards. Environmental considerations have been integrated throughout, with solar power installations implemented to the maximum extent allowed by law, supporting Metso’s goal of achieving net-zero CO₂ emissions by 2030.

Armando Luna, General Manager of the Filter Plate Factory in Irapuato, commented, “It is a privilege to contribute to the community by creating local employment for dewatering technology experts and production staff. Our product development team remains committed to meeting customer needs globally while continuously enhancing our competencies. Opening this hub with around 75 employees is a source of pride, especially as we are recognized as a Great Place to Work® company in Mexico.”
