Greta Energy awards Metso a technology package for 1.2 MTPA compact pellet plant development in Maharashtra

(IN BRIEF) Metso has signed an agreement with Greta Energy Limited to supply a traveling grate pelletizing plant for Chandrapur, Maharashtra, marking its second Compact-sized Pellet Plant order in India after a similar award announced in late 2025. The order is included in Metso’s Q4 2025 Ferrous business intake, which is currently being divested. The compact plant centers on a 3-meter indurating machine, with Metso handling engineering design, proprietary equipment supply, automation, instrumentation and control systems. Greta Energy’s Group Chairman, Nitesh Chaudhari, said the 1.2 MTPA installation sets a new milestone for small-scale pellet plants in India and expects efficient execution to commissioning. Metso’s Matthias Gabriel noted growing trust in their compact pellet technology, now implemented in five projects — three in China and two in India — since the concept launched in 2022.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESPOO, 8-Dec-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Metso has reached a new supply agreement with Greta Energy Limited to support the development of a traveling grate pelletizing facility in Chandrapur, Maharashtra. The project reinforces Metso’s growing traction in India’s pelletizing market and becomes the company’s second Compact-sized Pellet Plant secured in the country within a relatively short period, following a previous contract announced in November 2025. Although commercial terms remain confidential, the order has been booked in Metso’s Ferrous business fourth-quarter 2025 intake, which is currently classified as discontinued operations due to ongoing divestment activities.

The Chandrapur installation will be built around a compact 3-meter-wide indurating machine, with Metso responsible for the full engineering and plant layout, in addition to delivering its proprietary equipment, automation elements, instrumentation and control systems necessary for smooth plant operation.

Greta Energy Limited’s Group Chairman, Nitesh Chaudhari, described the collaboration as a significant step for India’s steel production capabilities, highlighting that the 1.2 MTPA project introduces a scale and technology combination not previously deployed in the country. He noted that smaller pelletizing units have potential to reshape regional steelmaking and expressed optimism about strong coordination between both teams through to commissioning.

Metso’s Director of Ferrous Technologies, Matthias Gabriel, stated that the deal reflects continued confidence in Metso’s compact pellet solutions, engineered for the needs of rising steel producers in markets such as India and China. Since launching the Compact-sized Pellet Plant concept in 2022, Metso has secured a total of five plant projects — three in China and now two in India — strengthening its portfolio and customer base in energy-efficient pelletizing technology.
