Leonardo, partnering with Siemens (Leonardo 84%; Siemens 16%), was awarded the contract totaling more than 96 million euros which includes a four-year contract plus option for an additional four years.
With the award of this contract, Leonardo confirms its position as one of the leading operators in the international market for airport Baggage Handling Systems (BHS). In the last 24 months Leonardo has been awarded contracts for the implementation and service of baggage handling systems for multiple European airports in Zurich, Geneva, Paris Orly, Lyon, Mulhouse; and international airports in Kuwait City and other Middle Eastern and Asian locations.
The contract, signed between Leonardo and Aeroporti di Roma S.p.A. (ADR), provides the technical management, preventive and corrective maintenance of each BHS plant. As part of this plan, Leonardo has delivered two new large BHS systems at Rome Fiumicino, the first dedicated to the flights of the Alitalia and the SkyTeam alliance carriers, the second dedicated to all the other carriers. Both plants, in service since 2016, have been designed and built by LoB Automation of Leonardo at the Genoa site and adopt the MBHS® (Mutisorting Baggage Handling System) sorting machines based on the innovative cross-belt technology. In 2017, the airports of Rome Fiumicino and Rome Ciampino served a total of 47 million passengers, hosting 360,000 flight movements.
