Henkel Employees Worldwide Volunteer for Renovation and Building Projects in ‘Welcome Home 2022’ Initiative

(IN BRIEF) Henkel, a global provider of sustainable solutions, has launched the “Welcome Home 2022” Corporate Social Responsibility program to improve the lives of 30 million people worldwide. Under the program, Henkel employees from all over the world volunteer for construction and renovation projects in collaboration with NGOs. The initiative supports Henkel’s goal of enhancing the livelihood of people by renovating and building homes, schools, or playgrounds. The program started in 2016 and since then employee volunteers have spent more than 900 volunteering days and have completed more than 20 projects in 13 countries.

Through the program, Henkel employees from all over the world volunteer for construction and renovation projects in collaboration with renowned NGOs. The initiative is a key element of Henkel’s sustainability strategy and supports the company’s goal of enhancing the livelihood of people by renovating and building homes, schools or playgrounds.

In 2022, employees from all over the world volunteered in seven construction or renovation projects to improve the living conditions locally. Henkel supports the “Welcome Home” volunteering activities with product donations from its broad portfolio of products for construction and renovation under well-known brands such as Ceresit or Pattex. Since the program’s start in 2016, employees altogether have spent more than 900 volunteering days and have realized more than 20 projects in 13 different countries.

Henkel’s commitment to Corporate Citizenship aligns with the United Nations’ goal of providing adequate housing** for 3 billion people worldwide by 2030. “Especially after the limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic the last years, we are very proud about the great outcome and achievements in 2022,” added Dorn.

In 2022, Henkel employees and volunteers participated in a series of “Welcome Home” projects around the world, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity and other organizations. These projects aimed to improve living conditions for families in need by building and renovating homes, playgrounds, and schools.

In South Africa, a team of Henkel employees worked with the Nelson Mandela Foundation and Habitat for Humanity to build a 2-bedroom home in the city of Guateng. The project included mixing cement, laying bricks, and assisting expert builders with the construction.

In Brazil, Henkel volunteers supported Habitat for Humanity in the renovation of homes for four families living in difficult conditions in Heliopolis, Sao Paolo. The volunteers participated in activities such as painting, plastering, material preparation, demolition, masonry, and grouting.

In the United States, Henkel partnered with Habitat for Humanity to sponsor a new home as part of a neighborhood revitalization plan in Cleveland. The Henkel volunteers engaged in different activities such as framing, painting, and finishing works.

In the United Kingdom, Henkel volunteers helped renovate an adventure playground in Kennington, London, where children can learn and develop new skills in a nurturing and supportive environment. The activities included fixing and repairing existing play structures, painting and decorating.

In Romania, Henkel volunteers supported the Habitat for Humanity project SOS Villages in the city of Bucharest. The project offered a family to children who have run out of parental support or are at risk of losing it. The employees replaced parts of the roof of two houses and helped with thermal insulation of facades and roofs.

In Mexico, Henkel volunteers sponsored one house for a vulnerable family in the city of Donato Guerrera. The activities included finishing interior walls and waterproofing the roof.

In Colombia, Henkel volunteers helped renovate a school in the city of Sibate, in collaboration with the Catalina Munoz Foundation. The team used prefabricated solutions to enlarge the classroom and create additional space for more students.

In all these projects, Henkel employees and volunteers worked to create better living conditions for families in need. Through their dedication and hard work, they were able to make a positive impact on the communities they served.
