(PRESS RELEASE) HANOVER, 21-Feb-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Continental (ETR: CON), a German multinational automotive parts manufacturing company, announces that it has joined the Tire Industry Project (TIP) as the fourth co-chair, highlighting its continued commitment to sustainability. Continental brings long-term expertise and resources to TIP, focusing on end-of-life tires, sustainability assessment methods, and sustainable materials. TIP, under the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, is the tire industry’s most prominent global forum for sustainability issues, addressing all phases of the tire lifecycle, including raw material procurement, manufacturing, use phase, and management of end-of-life tires. The forum is comprised of ten leading tire companies that represent over 60% of global tire production capacity, including Bridgestone, Goodyear, and Michelin.

As part of Continental’s corporate strategy, the company is committed to becoming the most progressive tire manufacturer in terms of sustainability by 2030. Sustainable and responsible business practices are integral to the company’s operations, and it focuses on critical issues such as climate change mitigation, low-emission transportation, the circular economy, and sustainable supply chains, covering all stages of the value chain.

The addition of Continental as a co-chair to TIP is a significant development for the tire industry and reinforces the importance of sustainability in the industry. As a leader in the field, Continental’s participation will bring valuable expertise and insights to the forum and help drive the industry forward towards a more sustainable future.

“Continental pursues ambitious sustainability goals. But we also know that some overarching challenges can only be solved together. To do so, we increasingly need to set up overarching projects, pool specialist knowledge from all disciplines, and take on responsibility jointly,” says Christian Kötz, Head of the Tires Group Sector and member of the Executive Board of Continental AG. “As a founding member, we have been closely involved with the Tire Industry Project right from the start,” he adds.

“TIP was founded to deliver scientific research on tire and road wear particles (TRWP) and other environmental and human health issues facing the industry in 2005, and while our support for research is as important as ever, TIP and our members have evolved to meet broader sustainability challenges,” says Anne-Cécile Rémont, who is the Executive Director of the Tire Industry Project.
