Auerbach selects Inmarsat Maritime’s NexusWave to power high-speed digital operations across its next-generation fleet

Inmarsat Maritime to provide NexusWave bonded connectivity for Auerbach’s new heavy lift vessel fleet.

(IN BRIEF) Inmarsat Maritime will install its NexusWave bonded connectivity system across Auerbach’s new fleet of eco-efficient heavy lift vessels, providing fully managed, high-speed, unlimited satellite connectivity to support operational performance, regulatory compliance, and digital shipboard systems. The deployment aligns with Auerbach’s fleet renewal programme, which is focused on fuel efficiency, advanced cargo handling, and modern digital capabilities, as the German shipping company responds to growing demand and stricter environmental standards. Both companies highlighted that seamless, reliable connectivity is becoming a key competitive advantage in the modern maritime industry, particularly for data-intensive project cargo operations.

(PRESS RELEASE) HAMBURG, 3-Feb-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Inmarsat Maritime, part of Viasat Communication Services, will equip Auerbach’s next-generation heavy lift vessels with its NexusWave bonded connectivity solution, ensuring high-performance, fully managed satellite communications across the German shipping company’s new fleet. The deployment is designed to support Auerbach’s operational, regulatory, and digital requirements as it modernises its fleet to meet rising market demand and stricter environmental standards.

Hamburg-based Auerbach has launched a comprehensive fleet renewal programme in response to growing global demand for sophisticated project cargo transport. Its new series of ‘ECO’ multipurpose vessels, currently under construction at Taizhou Sanfu Shipyard in China, have been engineered to deliver superior cargo handling capabilities alongside enhanced fuel efficiency. By integrating Inmarsat’s NexusWave connectivity, Auerbach aims to ensure that critical onboard systems, data flows, and digital operations remain continuously supported, even in the most remote maritime environments.

NexusWave combines high-speed performance, global coverage, and unlimited data within a fully managed bonded connectivity framework. This approach is intended to deliver a user experience comparable to terrestrial broadband, enabling seamless data transmission for operational technologies, compliance reporting, crew welfare services, and digital applications. For modern ship operators like Auerbach, such robust connectivity is increasingly essential as regulatory obligations and digital operational demands continue to expand.

Jan Boldt, Technical Director at Auerbach, said that the company’s fleet renewal strategy reflects its ambition to lead the modernisation of the project cargo sector through the ownership and operation of environmentally advanced multipurpose vessels. He emphasised that NexusWave will play a key role in supporting efficient vessel operations, regulatory compliance, and the digital needs of both customers and crew through reliable, high-speed connectivity from a single managed provider.

Jan-Henning Stehr, Sales Manager for Europe at Inmarsat Maritime, noted that forward-thinking ship owners increasingly recognise the competitive advantages offered by fully managed bonded connectivity. He stated that Auerbach’s new vessels are designed to serve a growing market for high-quality project cargo transport, and that NexusWave will provide the seamless, next-generation communications infrastructure needed to support that vision.
