Inmarsat and RBC Signals partnership brings affordable IoT connectivity to industries

(IN BRIEF) Inmarsat has partnered with RBC Signals, enabling them to resell Inmarsat’s IoT Connectivity Leasing solution. This solution will enable IoT solution providers to lease a private slice of Inmarsat’s ELERA L-band network, optimized for the Internet of Things (IoT), without the need to launch and maintain their own satellite constellations. RBC Signals’ customers can now choose when they require satellite connectivity, paying only for what they need, and benefit from a hardened private network for added security and reliability. This solution offers unparalleled levels of flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and reliability, and will help businesses gain access to the transformational benefits of IoT, including improved operational efficiencies, increased safety levels, and meeting sustainability targets.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 14-Mar-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Inmarsat (LSE: ISAT), the world leader in global, mobile satellite communications, has announced a new partnership with RBC Signals, making them the first partner to resell Inmarsat’s IoT Connectivity Leasing solution. The solution, which has been successfully tested, enables the dynamic provision of satellite connectivity depending on changing customer needs.

The solution allows customers of RBC Signals to create their own virtual satellite network by leasing a private slice of Inmarsat’s ELERA L-band network, which is optimized for the Internet of Things (IoT). This allows IoT solution providers to gain simple, affordable, and flexible satellite connectivity without the need to launch and maintain their own satellite constellations. This means that they can offer innovative IoT solutions to industries without having to invest heavily in infrastructure.

RBC Signals’ customers will now have the flexibility to choose when they require satellite connectivity, paying only for what they need. This will allow them to avoid long-term leasing contracts that could result in underutilized resources. RBC Signals’ customers will also benefit from a hardened private network, which provides added security and reliability.

Jat Brainch, Chief Commercial and Digital Officer, Inmarsat said: “We’re delighted to announce the successful completion of the in-field testing of our IoT Connectivity Leasing with RBC Signals.

“By leveraging our ELERA network as part of this offering, IoT solution providers will benefit from connectivity tailored to their needs, as well as the peace of mind that their IoT solutions are being powered by our ultra-reliable narrowband network”.

In addition, the successful on-air testing has shown that partners can rapidly change beam coverage to meet the individual connectivity needs of businesses. This will support hourly visibility of key assets across rail networks to enable better supply-chain management or twice-weekly control and monitoring of water irrigation systems within the agriculture industry.

Inmarsat’s IoT Connectivity Leasing solution offers IoT solution providers and their customers unparalleled levels of flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and reliability. With RBC Signals as its first reseller, more businesses are set to gain access to the transformational benefits of IoT, including improved operational efficiencies, increased safety levels, and meeting sustainability targets.

Christopher Richins, CEO of RBC Signals said: “The IoT market has grown at an exponential rate over the last few years and shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. As appetite for IoT solutions continues – particularly in more remote, rural areas – it is vital that satellite-based solutions are available in cost-efficient formats so all businesses can tap into their potential.

“The successful testing of Inmarsat’s IoT Connectivity Leasing solution is an absolute gamechanger across a number of industries, including agriculture, utilities, oil and gas and transportation, and is a significant step forward in making accessible satellite connectivity a reality for all businesses.”
