(PRESS RELEASE) EXETER, 22-Dec-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — University of Exeter has announced the launch of a new executive-level professional education programme developed in collaboration with Cystel Limited, aimed at preparing senior business leaders for the strategic challenges of the emerging quantum economy. Scheduled to begin in the new year, the programme is designed specifically for executives navigating governance, risk, and decision-making during a company’s transition to quantum technologies.

The initiative responds to growing recognition that quantum computing presents both transformative opportunities and significant risks for organisations. With quantum technologies expected to reshape sectors such as defence, energy, finance, sustainability, healthcare, and security, the programme focuses on equipping leaders with the foresight needed to manage quantum-related risks while capturing competitive advantage. Its relevance has been underscored by recent global economic research highlighting the technology’s potential to drive unprecedented growth.

Delivered through the University of Exeter Business School, which holds triple accreditation, the programme brings together academic expertise and industry-led insight. Cystel contributes its specialist capabilities in quantum and artificial intelligence governance, with the collaboration formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organisations.

The course will be delivered via the Defence Data Research Centre, a transdisciplinary hub focused on accelerating the real-world impact of data science and AI. The centre has been recognised as a finalist in the British Data Awards 2025 for Data Team of the Year, reflecting its role in advancing applied research and innovation.

Representatives from both partners emphasised that the programme is designed to help executives learn from earlier technological shifts, particularly artificial intelligence, where many organisations underestimated the pace of change and the workforce skills required. By addressing governance and risk considerations early, the initiative aims to help companies avoid similar challenges as quantum technologies move closer to large-scale deployment.

The programme is positioned as a practical and strategic offering rather than a purely academic course, providing senior leaders with insight into safeguarding organisational assets while preparing to leverage the capabilities of quantum computing ahead of competitors.
