Swissgas: first natural gas produced from the Clipper South gas field in the British North Sea by Bayerngas UK Ltd

Zurich, 06-9-2013 — /EuropaWire/ — Bayerngas UK Ltd., in which Swissgas holds an interest through its engagement in Bayerngas Norge, has produced natural gas from the Clipper South gas field in the British North Sea for the first time. There are estimated reserves of around 1.2 billion standard cubic metres. The maximum production rate is targeted for 2013/2014, to be followed by a production phase of around 15 years. The Swissgas share of the production would be sufficient to supply around 23,000 Swiss households for one year.

The gas field is located in blocks 48/19 A, 48/20 A and 48/19 C in the southern British North Sea, around 100 km from the coast. The water depth is 24 metres and the gas reservoir is situated around 2,500 metres below the seabed. Production takes place at the company’s own temporarily manned platform, from which the gas is transported to the UK through the Lincolnshire Offshore Gas Gathering System (LOGGS).

Bayerngas UK Ltd. is a 100 percent subsidiary of the Norwegian Bayerngas Norge AS, Oslo. It holds 25 percent of the licence for the Clipper South gas field. Partners in Bayerngas Norge are Bayerngas GmbH, Stadtwerke München GmbH, SWM Gasbeteiligungs GmbH, Swissgas AG and TIGAS – Erdgas Tirol GmbH. The company’s mission is to invest in gas fields and licences for natural gas production on the Norwegian, Danish and British continental shelves.
