SSAB Europe’s Raahe Unit Begins Change Negotiations to Cut Costs Amid Weak Demand

(IN BRIEF) SSAB Europe’s Business Unit Finland is entering into change negotiations in Raahe due to ongoing weak demand. The company aims to structurally reduce fixed costs by at least EUR 10 million annually. These negotiations, involving approximately 2,400 employees, will explore ways to increase operational flexibility and adapt to reduced demand while considering future needs. If primary operation models aren’t agreed upon, these negotiations may lead to workforce reductions. SSAB employs around 4,700 people in Finland.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 26-Sep-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — SSAB Europe’s Business Unit Finland is to initiate change negotiations in Raahe because of continued weak demand. The target is to structurally reduce the fixed costs by at least EUR 10 million on an annual basis. The negotiations will discuss alternatives to increase flexibility in operations and adjust to weakened demand, while taking account of future needs.

The change negotiations concern the Raahe Works’ organization and affect around 2,400 employees. Unless agreement is reached on the primary operations models pursued, the negotiations could result in workforce reductions.

The negotiations will last an estimated six weeks unless otherwise agreed. SSAB employs a total of around 4,700 people in Finland.
