Hexagon Enhances EDGECAM with Faster Simulation, Improved Machining Strategies and Integrated AI Assistance

(IN BRIEF) Hexagon has released an updated version of EDGECAM designed to help manufacturers prepare and verify CNC programs more quickly and efficiently. The new features include significantly faster simulation rewind capabilities, enhanced 3D simulation sharing through Live Job Reports, and improved machining strategies that boost performance and surface quality. The update also introduces Hexagon Copilot, an AI-powered assistant that allows users to interact with the software using natural language, making it easier to navigate and utilize advanced features. These improvements aim to reduce programming delays, strengthen communication between teams, and increase confidence in machining processes, ultimately helping manufacturers move from design to production faster and more effectively.

(PRESS RELEASE) COBHAM, 20-Apr-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Hexagon has introduced a new release of its EDGECAM software through its Production Software Division, delivering enhanced capabilities aimed at helping manufacturers prepare and validate CNC programs more efficiently. The update focuses on accelerating simulation processes, improving communication between programming and shop-floor teams, refining machining strategies, and integrating practical AI-driven assistance directly into the CAM workflow.

As machining operations grow more complex and production timelines tighten, CNC programmers face increasing pressure to develop reliable programs quickly while maintaining accuracy and confidence in execution. Although modern CAM systems provide advanced tools for complex machining, longer programs and more intricate operations have made verification, simulation review, and operator communication more time-intensive.

The latest release of EDGECAM addresses these challenges by significantly improving simulation performance. The system now captures snapshots at each tool change, allowing users to quickly navigate backward through machining sequences. This enhancement reduces simulation rewind times dramatically, from several seconds to nearly instant access, enabling programmers to review complex operations without disrupting their workflow.

In addition to performance gains, the update enhances collaboration between programming and production teams. Users can now record full 3D machine simulations and embed them into Live Job Reports. These interactive simulations can be accessed through a web browser, allowing machine operators to explore machining processes without requiring direct access to EDGECAM. Features such as zoom, rotation, adjustable playback speed, and timeline navigation provide a clearer understanding of how jobs will be executed before they reach the machine.

Zoltan Tomoga, Product Manager at Hexagon’s Production Software Division, noted that the improvements are designed to remove everyday inefficiencies in programming tasks. The goal is to enable faster review of machining sequences, improve clarity for operators, and simplify access to software capabilities, helping teams maintain productivity under demanding conditions.

The release also introduces enhancements to machining performance across several toolpath strategies. These include support for lens tools within the Parallel Lace cycle, smoother roll-in transitions in Face Milling, improved collision avoidance in Rest Roughing through better holder awareness, and expanded Race Line finishing controls for more precise operations. These updates enable programmers to create more efficient toolpaths with improved surface quality and reduced need for manual adjustments during setup.

A key addition to the platform is Hexagon Copilot for EDGECAM, which integrates natural-language assistance directly into the software environment. This feature allows users to interact with the system more intuitively by asking questions, locating functions, and accessing guidance without navigating complex menus or documentation. The capability is particularly valuable for new users and teams operating under tight production deadlines.

EDGECAM already supports advanced automation features such as feature recognition, Strategy Manager, and knowledge-based machining. The introduction of Copilot builds on these capabilities by making them more accessible, helping users take full advantage of the system’s functionality while reducing time spent on routine tasks.

With these updates, Hexagon aims to address a key challenge in modern manufacturing: enabling faster transitions from design models to production-ready CNC code while maintaining high levels of accuracy, visibility, and operational confidence before machining begins.
