Egis Group Delivers Integrated Engineering Excellence for Yas Waterworld Expansion on Yas Island Abu Dhabi

(IN BRIEF) Egis Group successfully delivered the design and engineering for the expansion of Yas Waterworld on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, acting as Lead Design Consultant for Miral. The project added nearly 16,900 square metres of new attractions and facilities while integrating seamlessly into a fully operational theme park environment. Egis handled multidisciplinary coordination, MEP design, and complex infrastructure integration, including linking new systems with existing utilities. By leveraging detailed data analysis and optimizing existing assets instead of building entirely new systems, the project achieved both technical efficiency and cost effectiveness. The expansion also incorporated sustainable features such as energy-efficient systems, smart controls, and local sourcing. Careful planning ensured construction proceeded safely without disrupting operations, highlighting Egis’ expertise in delivering large-scale developments within live environments.

(PRESS RELEASE) GUYANCOURT, 20-Apr-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Egis Group has marked a significant achievement with the inauguration of the newest expansion at Yas Waterworld on Yas Island. Commissioned by Miral, Egis’ UAE-based engineering team took on the role of Lead Design Consultant, overseeing the delivery of this major addition to one of the region’s most prominent water parks. The project required close coordination across multiple design disciplines, authority approvals, and specialist consultants, with a clear objective of delivering infrastructure that is both robust and seamlessly integrated to support the park’s continued growth and evolving guest experience.

As part of its scope, Egis was responsible for the complete MEP design of the expansion. This included both above- and below-ground pump rooms, a newly constructed electrical substation, food and beverage facilities with associated changing amenities, and all required external utility systems. A key component of the work involved developing a comprehensive strategy to connect these new installations with the park’s existing infrastructure—an exercise that demanded detailed technical evaluation, strong engineering expertise, and coordinated stakeholder engagement.

Situated at the south-eastern edge of the current site, the expansion introduces approximately 16,900 square metres of additional space within a busy, fully operational destination. Unlike greenfield developments, this project required the integration of new attractions, facilities, and infrastructure into an active environment, where safety, accessibility, and continuity of operations were paramount considerations throughout the design and execution phases.

Instead of relying on entirely new standalone systems, Egis adopted a data-driven approach by conducting extensive site assessments, reviewing existing documentation, and analysing building management system data to evaluate the capacity of current chilled water, water, and electrical networks. This approach enabled the team to identify opportunities to optimise and extend existing systems, delivering a solution that balanced technical reliability with cost efficiency while aligning with the growing importance of asset optimisation in the region.

Supporting the construction phase presented its own challenges, particularly given the need to maintain uninterrupted park operations. Egis contributed to the planning of utility diversions, construction sequencing, and access logistics to ensure work progressed safely and efficiently without affecting visitor experience. The relocation of critical infrastructure, including 22kV electrical lines and fibre optic networks, required precise coordination with authorities, the client, and operational teams to prevent disruptions.

Sustainability and operational performance were also central to the project. The expansion incorporates demand-controlled ventilation, energy-efficient LED lighting, advanced lighting control systems, leak detection integrated with the building management system, and comprehensive metering for utilities such as chilled water, potable water, and electricity. Additionally, the specification of locally sourced materials where possible supported regional supply chains and contributed to reducing the project’s environmental footprint.

With the expansion now open to the public, the project demonstrates Egis’ capability to deliver complex engineering solutions within live environments while aligning with broader goals of operational efficiency, sustainability, and enhanced visitor experiences.

Ali Amiri, Buildings Director at Egis Group, highlighted the significance of the milestone, noting that the success of the expansion lies not only in visible outcomes but also in the underlying engineering decisions, integration strategies, and coordination efforts that ensure long-term performance, safety, and sustainability.
