SikaBaffle AutoStack Wins German Sustainability Award for Automotive Sustainability

(IN BRIEF) Sika has been recognized with the German Sustainability Award for its SikaBaffle® AutoStack system, a cavity-sealing solution that improves sustainability across automotive manufacturing. The product’s stackable design boosts packaging density, reducing transport emissions, storage needs, and logistics costs. Through the use of recycled materials and low-bake curing technology, it also lowers energy consumption and global warming potential. The award reflects Sika’s focus on scalable, circular innovations that help automotive manufacturers improve efficiency while advancing sustainability goals.

(PRESS RELEASE) BAAR, 6-Jan-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Sika has been awarded the German Sustainability Award for its SikaBaffle® AutoStack system, with the jury highlighting the solution’s contribution to more efficient logistics, reduced material use, and lower energy consumption within the automotive industry.

Designed for use during the e-coat and paint stages of vehicle production, SikaBaffle® AutoStack is a thermally activated cavity-sealing solution that protects vehicle body cavities from noise, dust, and moisture. What sets the system apart is its modular, stackable design, which allows manufacturers to dramatically increase packaging density by up to 200 percent. This optimization significantly reduces transport volumes, storage space requirements, and associated CO₂ emissions, while also lowering logistical costs across the supply chain.

Sustainability gains are further reinforced through material and process innovation. SikaBaffle® AutoStack incorporates recycled materials and utilizes low-bake curing technology, resulting in reduced energy demand and a lower global warming potential compared with conventional cavity-sealing products. These features support automotive manufacturers in meeting increasingly ambitious sustainability targets without compromising performance or production efficiency.

The German Sustainability Award is Europe’s largest accolade recognizing ecological and social responsibility. It honors products that deliver measurable impact across five critical areas: climate, resources, nature, value chain, and society. In its evaluation, the jury cited the product’s verified sustainability performance, scalability for long-term industrial application, and strong commitment to circular economy principles.

Patricia Heidtman, Chief Innovation and Sustainability Officer at Sika, described the award as validation of the company’s engineering-led approach to sustainability. She noted that SikaBaffle® AutoStack demonstrates how rethinking established components can create solutions that reduce emissions, enable automation, and drive efficiency throughout the automotive value chain.

The German Sustainability Award is presented by the German Sustainability Award Foundation in collaboration with organizations including the German Sustainable Building Council, WWF, and the German Chambers of Industry and Commerce. Winners are selected through a multi-stage assessment process based on transparent sustainability criteria and lifecycle evaluations.
