Siemens Introduces Groundbreaking LV Insights X Software to Enhance Grid Capacity in Energy Networks

(IN BRIEF) Siemens has unveiled LV Insights X software, a pioneering solution for managing low-voltage grids. The software enables distribution grid operators to address the challenge of increasing grid capacity while accommodating the rise of decentralized renewable energy and additional consumers. By actively managing the low-voltage grid, utilities can prevent power grids from becoming a bottleneck in the energy transition. LV Insights X provides transparency, reduces outage times, and identifies critical segments for increased grid capacity. It also allows for the creation of a digital twin of the distribution grid, facilitating adaptable and scalable grid management. The software is available as Software as a Service (SaaS) and offers improved data handling, optimized workflows, and enhanced planning accuracy.

(PRESS RELEASE) ZUG, 14-Jun-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Siemens AG (ETR: SIE), a German multinational conglomerate and Europe’s largest industrial manufacturing company, has unveiled its innovative LV Insights X software, a groundbreaking solution for managing low-voltage grids. As the first of its kind in the industry, LV Insights X, part of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio, empowers distribution grid operators (DSOs) to address the critical challenge of increasing grid capacity while accommodating the growing influx of decentralized renewable energy sources and additional consumers such as electric vehicle chargers and heat pumps. By actively managing the low-voltage grid, utilities can prevent power grids from becoming a bottleneck in the energy transition.

LV Insights X offers DSOs full transparency over the low-voltage level of the grid, reducing outage times by up to 30 percent and enabling the identification of critical segments for increased grid capacity. The software simplifies the creation and management of complete low-voltage grid models, automating processes and leveraging data for more informed decision-making. With LV Insights X, DSOs can create a digital twin of the distribution grid using existing data, laying the foundation for adaptable and scalable low-voltage grid management.

“Low-voltage grids can become a trailblazer on our path to net zero,” said Sabine Erlinghagen, CEO of Siemens Grid Software. “But only if we deploy software to increase the capacity of the existing grids quickly. That’s why we are extremely proud to launch LV Insights X. As an industry first, this software enables utilities to actively manage low-voltage grids to gain speed for transforming the overall energy system, make maximum use of the existing infrastructure, and ultimately shape the energy transition.”

The demand for electricity is expected to triple by 2050, driven by electrification in heating, transportation, and industry, according to McKinsey. This surge in demand, coupled with the installation of millions of electric vehicles and heat pumps, poses significant challenges for the power grid, particularly at the low-voltage grid level. DSOs face the task of rapidly providing the necessary capacity and connections while working with limited resources to ensure grid stability.

By implementing LV Insights X, grid operators will benefit from time savings, detailed insights, and optimized workflows. The software enables the breakdown of data silos, reducing data handling efforts and maintenance time. Integration of various data sources, such as geographic information systems and meter data management systems, allows for the creation of a complete grid topology with real-time status visibility. Grid operators can monitor and manage the grid through a user-centric graphical interface, even on mobile devices. The software provides faster outage identification, fault impact assessment, and improved planning accuracy, enhancing the overall effectiveness of grid operations and investments.

LV Insights X is part of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio and is available as Software as a Service (SaaS), ensuring quick deployment, scalability, cybersecurity standards, and reduced entry costs and risks.
