Procemex Secures Contract to Upgrade Billerud’s Board Mill with Advanced OnePlatform Web Inspection System

(IN BRIEF) Procemex, part of the ANDRITZ Group, has been awarded a contract by Billerud to supply an innovative OnePlatform web monitoring and inspection system for its board mill in Gävle, Sweden. This new system, scheduled for installation in Q3 2025, is designed to replace the existing equipment, offering enhanced reliability and performance to meet the high-quality standards of liquid board packaging customers. The system integrates advanced web inspection technologies including high-resolution low-angle reflection, 3D defect detection, and specialized UV light detection to identify oil defects, complemented by high-angle reflection and transmission methods for comprehensive quality assurance. A total of 120 smart cameras, featuring ProClean pinhole technology and paired with high-sensitivity Lumina Supersense cameras and Eco strobe lights, will ensure continuous monitoring and minimal maintenance downtime. Additionally, the contract includes winder and re-winder control systems, along with full installation, commissioning, and training support provided by Procemex.

(PRESS RELEASE) GRAZ, 20-Mar-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Procemex, a proud member of the ANDRITZ Group, has secured a significant order from Billerud to deliver its advanced OnePlatform web monitoring and inspection system for a board mill located in Gävle, Sweden. This state-of-the-art system, which incorporates both winder and re-winder controls, is set to replace the outdated systems currently in use, thereby boosting reliability, enhancing performance, and increasing overall production efficiency. With installation planned for the third quarter of 2025, this investment will empower Billerud to meet the highest quality standards demanded by its liquid board packaging customers.

The innovative web inspection capabilities of the system cover a broad range of measurement geometries and employ diverse technologies to detect various defects with precision. Notably, high-resolution low-angle reflection and 3D defect detection techniques are integrated to accurately identify elevated defects and indents. In addition, Procemex’s breakthrough UV light detection technology is designed to spot even the most subtle oil defects, ensuring superior product safety for BM5’s liquid packaging board. To further guarantee comprehensive quality control, the system also features high-resolution high-angle reflection and transmission detection.

A total of 120 smart cameras will be incorporated into the system. Among these, 40 Procemex Lumina Supersense smart cameras—known for their extreme light sensitivity—are paired with Procemex Eco strobe lights to optimize monitoring. Each camera position is enhanced by the latest ProClean pinhole technology, which provides uninterrupted sheet visibility and minimizes maintenance requirements. The scope of supply is rounded out by the inclusion of winder and re-winder control (ATC) systems, designed to streamline and optimize the winder operations.

Beyond the hardware, Procemex will also manage the system installation, offer comprehensive supervision during commissioning, and provide extensive training and start-up support, ensuring a smooth transition and immediate operational benefits.
