(IN BRIEF) Turkish steel manufacturer Borçelik has selected ANDRITZ to supply a versatile combi-line furnace for a new cold strip mill in Bursa. This advanced furnace will support both galvanizing and annealing operations, enhancing Borçelik’s production of automotive-grade steel. The project, which aims to boost output capacity and flexibility, is slated to begin operations by the third quarter of 2026.

(PRESS RELEASE) GRAZ, 9-Nov-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Turkish steel producer Borçelik has chosen international technology group ANDRITZ to supply a state-of-the-art combi-line furnace for its new continuous galvanizing and annealing line, part of a cold strip mill complex being built in Bursa, Gemlik region. This facility will manufacture hot-dip galvanized steel for automotive panels and uncoated strip, with operations expected to begin in the third quarter of 2026. While financial details remain undisclosed, the project marks a significant collaboration.

The ANDRITZ scope includes a radiant-tube furnace featuring annealing and soaking sections, a slow cooling area, and a Differential Rapid Jet Cooling system. Designed to support both continuous galvanizing (CGL) and continuous annealing (CAL) operations, the furnace allows flexibility in production. The CGL mode directs the strip through the zinc pot and cooling stages, while the CAL mode utilizes a zinc pot bypass and extends the strip through an overaging section.

Space has been allocated within the furnace for potential future expansions, allowing Borçelik to enhance its capacity or add new steel grades. This partnership highlights ANDRITZ’s expertise and strong track record in automotive steel processing technology.

Borçelik, a joint venture between Borusan Holding and ArcelorMittal, is Turkey’s first private flat steel producer and the country’s largest supplier of high-quality galvanized flat steel.
