(IN BRIEF) Nokia, working with Keysight Technologies, has successfully tested Ultra Ethernet Transport (UET) traffic across its 7220 and 7250 IXR data center switching platforms, validating their ability to handle the extreme performance requirements of AI and HPC workloads. The demonstration, which included 800 GE flows generated on Keysight’s AresONE test system, confirmed compatibility with the Ultra Ethernet Consortium Specification 1.0 while also showcasing support for RoCEv2. Executives from both companies emphasized that this milestone strengthens efforts to deliver high-performance, scalable, and interoperable data center networking solutions for the AI era.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESPOO, 1-Oct-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Nokia has announced the successful completion of an end-to-end test of Ultra Ethernet Transport (UET) traffic across its high-performance data center switching platforms in collaboration with Keysight Technologies. The test validates the performance, scalability, and reliability of Nokia’s 7220 Interconnect Router (IXR) and 7250 IXR families in meeting the unprecedented demands of artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads.

AI workloads are transforming how data centers operate, requiring ultra-low latency, zero packet loss, and enormous bandwidth at scale. Existing network infrastructures are increasingly strained by the requirements of real-time AI training and inference, where even minimal packet loss can delay operations. UET, introduced under the Ultra Ethernet Consortium (UEC) Specification 1.0, is designed to address these challenges by modernizing Ethernet with new standards and best practices to ensure high performance and interoperability for AI and HPC environments.

Rudy Hoebeke, Vice President of Software Product Management at Nokia, highlighted the significance of the achievement: “AI is changing the game when it comes to expected performance in AI data center networks. This demonstration with Keysight of UET traffic on our 7220 and 7250 IXR platforms underscores Nokia’s leadership in this field and provides clear evidence of our robust, HPC- and AI-ready portfolio.”

Ram Periakaruppan, Vice President and General Manager of Network Applications & Security at Keysight, emphasized the broader industry implications: “Ultra Ethernet is enabling the next generation of large-scale AI clusters, and our collaboration with Nokia marks an important milestone in ensuring specifications are practical, verifiable, and interoperable. Together, we are helping accelerate adoption and innovation in data center networking for AI.”

The test involved running 800 GE interfaces with flows of UET traffic generated by Keysight’s AresONE 800GE platform across Nokia’s 7220 IXR-H5 and 7250 IXR-10e switches, powered by the SR Linux Network Operating System. Additionally, support for Remote Direct Memory Access over Converged Ethernet (RoCEv2) was demonstrated in parallel with UET traffic, showcasing coexistence, openness, and flexibility within the network.

By integrating UEC Specification 1.0 into its data center fabric solutions, Nokia provides customers immediate access to a commercially available, AI-ready portfolio designed to scale with next-generation demands. The achievement reinforces Nokia’s commitment to delivering lossless, low-latency, and extreme-scale networking for the AI era.
