Nokia Supports Proximus Digital Transformation with Cloud-Native Charging and Core Network Upgrade

(IN BRIEF) Proximus has chosen Nokia to modernize its online charging system and voice core using cloud-native technologies, supporting greater automation, new business models, and advanced 5G services. The project includes migrating Proximus’ entire fixed and mobile customer base and more than 1,000 products to Nokia Converged Charging, fully replacing an existing charging platform. Deployed on Proximus’ own cloud with Red Hat OpenShift, the new solutions also include cloud-native Voice Core, Subscriber Data Management, and Policy capabilities, strengthening network automation and enabling future-ready digital services.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESPOO, 20-Jan-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Nokia has been selected by Proximus to modernize its online charging system and voice core, supporting the Belgian operator’s digital transformation and enabling greater automation, new business models, and future-ready services. Through the agreement, Proximus will adopt Nokia’s cloud-native solutions to enhance operational efficiency, accelerate service innovation, and advance toward more autonomous network operations.

As part of the transformation, Proximus will migrate its entire fixed and mobile customer base, along with more than 1,000 products, to Nokia Converged Charging, a cloud-native charging platform designed to support real-time services and flexible monetization. The project involves the full replacement of an existing competitor’s charging system, consolidating charging capabilities within a modern, scalable architecture.

In parallel, Proximus will deploy Nokia’s cloud-native Voice Core, Subscriber Data Management, and Policy solutions. These technologies are intended to improve network automation, enable flexible scaling, and support the introduction of new services, including advanced 5G monetization use cases. The upgrades also strengthen Proximus’ roadmap toward autonomous networks that can increasingly self-manage, self-optimize, and self-heal.

All solutions will be deployed on Proximus’ own cloud infrastructure using Red Hat OpenShift, the industry-leading hybrid cloud application platform powered by Kubernetes. This approach provides Proximus with a secure and modular foundation for running mission-critical telecom workloads while maintaining control over its cloud environment.

By modernizing its charging and core network domains, Proximus is positioning itself to securely deliver innovative digital services and unlock new revenue opportunities across emerging use cases such as IoT, content delivery, gaming, and digital advertising. The collaboration builds on a long-standing relationship between Proximus and Nokia, combining secure migration expertise with tailored, cloud-native solutions to support the next phase of network and business transformation.
