Nokia’s 25/50G PON Solution Delivers Post-Quantum Security and Six-Nines Reliability for Enterprise Networks

Nokia’s 25/50G PON Solution Delivers Post-Quantum Security and Six-Nines Reliability for Enterprise Networks

(IN BRIEF) Nokia has launched the world’s first 50G Passive Optical Network (PON) solution, enabling operators to upgrade existing 25G PON deployments on the Lightspan MF platform to 50G PON without infrastructure replacement. The solution delivers massive capacity, quantum-safe encryption, and high reliability for enterprise-grade broadband. With support for multiple PON technologies on one Quillion-based line card, operators can efficiently serve both residential and enterprise customers while maintaining scalability and cost efficiency. Industry leaders Colt Technology Services and IDATE have endorsed the solution’s flexibility and performance, underscoring Nokia’s role in advancing post-quantum, AI-optimized fiber connectivity.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESPOO, 7-Oct-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Nokia has unveiled the world’s first 50G Passive Optical Network (PON) solution designed for ultra-fast, post-quantum secure broadband tailored to the needs of enterprise customers. The innovation allows operators using Nokia’s Lightspan MF platform to seamlessly evolve from existing 10G or 25G PON deployments to 50G PON, without requiring major infrastructure changes. This advancement reinforces Nokia’s leadership in high-capacity, quantum-secure, and resilient fiber connectivity for mission-critical enterprise applications.

By enabling 50G PON on the existing 25G PON line card, Nokia offers operators a flexible, future-proof solution that maximizes network investment and simplifies upgrades. The multi-PON line card, powered by Nokia’s Quillion chipset, supports GPON, XGS, 25G, 50G, and future optical modules — including symmetrical 50G and triple-PON configurations. Its compact form factor increases port density, ensuring cost-efficient scalability while maintaining full backward compatibility.

“Multi-gigabit deployments are growing worldwide, driven by cloud, AI, industrial applications, and mobile evolution,” said Geert Heyninck, General Manager of Broadband Networks at Nokia. “For residential services, XGS and 25G PON meet today’s needs. But enterprises demand higher capacity, reliability, and security. Our 25G/50G PON solution meets those needs — both now and in the post-quantum future. The new multi-PON line card gives operators access to the full spectrum of PON technologies (10/25/50G), enabling them to deliver customized services quickly and securely.”

The 50G/25G PON solution introduces a new standard for enterprise-grade connectivity, offering quantum-safe encryption and secure key exchange to protect sensitive data from emerging quantum computing threats. It also delivers fully redundant network designs to ensure uninterrupted service, even under fault conditions such as fiber cuts. Advanced AI-based optimization enhances performance and reliability, supporting six-nines availability (99.9999%) — a key requirement for industries that rely on continuous, high-capacity data transmission.

Vivek Gaur, Vice President Engineering at Colt Technology Services, highlighted the operational benefits: “With Nokia, we’ve demonstrated how our fiber network can seamlessly support future enterprise demands. Building on our 10/25G PON capabilities, we successfully trialed Nokia’s 50G PON, confirming its exceptional flexibility and performance. With 25G — and eventually 50G — we can deliver the ultra-fast, reliable connectivity enterprises need for AI, cloud, and data-intensive applications, all over our existing network.”

Roland Montagne, Principal Analyst at IDATE, added: “Operators need networks that scale with customer demand. A single line card supporting 10, 25, and 50G PON allows them to efficiently serve everything from residential broadband to enterprise-grade services while keeping networks simple, scalable, and cost-efficient.”

Through this innovation, Nokia continues to strengthen its role as a trusted technology partner to operators worldwide, providing next-generation fiber solutions that combine performance, security, and sustainability — ready to meet the connectivity demands of both today and tomorrow’s digital enterprises.
