(PRESS RELEASE) ESPOO, 25-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Metso has signed an agreement with Beijing Shougang International Engineering Technology Co. Ltd (BSIET) to deliver a traveling grate pelletizing plant for Ruifeng Iron and Steel Group Co., Ltd, based in Tangshan, Hebei province, China. The plant is part of Ruifeng’s efforts to replace outdated shaft furnaces, reducing carbon emissions and complying with environmental regulations.

The contract covers the design and engineering of the indurating machine and process gas fan systems, along with the supply of Metso’s proprietary equipment, instrumentation, control systems, supervisory services, and technical training. The plant, utilizing Metso’s compact traveling grate technology, will have a capacity of 1.7 million tons per annum (MTPA) and is expected to begin operations in 2025.

This collaboration marks the 12th pelletizing plant built by Metso and BSIET in China, continuing a partnership that began in 2008. Last year, the two companies also signed contracts to deliver two similar plants for Chengde Zhaofeng Iron and Steel Group.

“We are excited to support Ruifeng’s decarbonization efforts with our advanced pelletizing technology,” said Matthias Gabriel, Director of Ferrous at Metso. “Our compact pellet plants offer mining companies a cost-efficient and flexible solution, helping them expand their value chains while supporting environmentally friendly steel-making.”

Metso’s pelletizing technology provides high-quality, uniform pellets, while minimizing investment and operational costs, energy consumption, and emissions.
