KUKA Marks 125th Anniversary with European Robot Week Celebrations

(IN BRIEF) KUKA, the renowned automation group celebrating its 125th year, has organized a series of events as part of the European Robot Week (ERW) from November 20 to 24, 2023. The theme, “We, you, all celebrate _become a robot star yourself,” invites participants of all ages to explore the world of robotics. The celebration includes activities such as a painting competition for children to envision life 125 years from now, a dance challenge set to the KUKA anniversary song “Keep on Moving,” a Robot Experience Day, and virtual tours of KUKA’s robot production facilities in Augsburg. These events aim to showcase the role of robots in shaping the future, from their current applications to their increasing importance in various aspects of society. Additionally, a virtual evening lecture on November 21 will discuss how KUKA is advancing construction practices by integrating robotics and automation into housing production, addressing societal challenges of speed, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability. The European Robotics Week (ERW), initiated in 2011 by the European association euRobotics, seeks to engage the public and demystify robotics, fostering interest and understanding of this transformative field.

(PRESS RELEASE) AUGSBURG, 24-Oct-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — How will we live in 125 years? These are the questions that the youngest children should ask themselves and submit their ideas to the KUKA painting competition. The slightly older children and young people have a choice: get creative together with the dance group to the KUKA anniversary song “Keep on Moving”, take part in the Robot Experience Day or take a virtual look behind the scenes of KUKA’s robot production at the headquarters in Augsburg? Each event aims to provide answers to these questions, why we will need robots in the future, what they can do in the first place and where they are already being used today. One thing is certain: robots are becoming increasingly important for everyday working life and society.

Virtual evening lecture: Will houses soon come from the factory?

Will our apartments and houses soon come from the factory? Robots on construction sites are nothing new. Patrick Zech, Head of Incubator at KUKA Systems, will explain why KUKA is bringing the construction site into the factory in a virtual evening lecture on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 6:30 p.m. entitled: “Houses from the Factory – How Robotics and Automation Meet Societal Challenges.”

He will focus on how robotics and automation offer solutions to current societal challenges such as housing and skills shortages. Specifically, the aim is to build faster, cheaper and more environmentally friendly. In doing so, KUKA is leveraging the expertise it has built up over decades in the automotive industry. In the evening lecture, there will be a look behind the scenes, first insights into a real in-house factory and, of course, the opportunity to ask questions.

The European Robot Week has been around since 2011

The European Robotics Week (ERW) is a Europe-wide action week around the topic of robotics. The aim of the week is to bring the general population closer to the topic of robotics, to arouse their interest or even to allay their fears. Initiator and main organizer of the European Robotics Week is the European association euRobotics. It calls on companies involved in robotics to participate in the campaign and organize a wide variety of events. The ERW was launched in 2011 by the European robotics community.
