Hubert Burda Media to welcome around 1,000 international guests to Munich’s HVB Forum for the 12th DLD innovation conference

MUNICH, 14-Jan-2016 — /EuropaWire/ — Reed Hastings (Netflix CEO), Jan Koum (WhatsApp founder), Marne Levine (Instagram COO) and Robert Kyncl (Chief Business Officer at YouTube) among the top speakers // DLD16 focuses on artificial intelligence, the future of work, the con-textualisation of data, TV on demand and the battle for the “connected consumer”

From 17 – 19 January 2016, Hubert Burda Media will welcome around 1,000 international guests to Munich’s HVB Forum for the twelfth DLD (Digital, Life, Design) innovation conference. Entitled “The Next Next”, the conference will see over 150 international speakers open up new perspectives and shed light on the key trends being driven by technical and scientific innovations. As Europe’s most important innovation conference, DLD shows how business, politics and society can benefit from digitalisation and keep pace with changes. Speakers at DLD16 include Jody Williams (Nobel Prize winner), Lapo Elkann(Italian entrepreneur), Oliver Bäte (Allianz), Adrian van Hooydonk (BMW), Arianna Huffington(Huffington Post) and Albert Wenger (investor).

DLD’s finger on the pulse
“Rather than a pure technology conference, DLD also deals with politics, business, culture and art”, explainsDLD founder and managing director Steffi Czerny. “We bring together the most important disruptors, technology companies, start-ups and investors from Europe, Israel and the USA. We want to learn from them about the changes we can expect and the impact these changes will have on a wide range of social sectors.”

“DLD offers a rare opportunity to consider many current topics from a European perspective”, says DLDmanaging director and editor-in-chief Dominik Wichmann. “The increasing crises that affect us all reveal that the world as we know it is undergoing a radical transformation. This makes it even more necessary to gather and hold discussions with opinion leaders and the people shaping the new world. We are therefore delighted that so many of these protagonists have responded to our call.”

The future of work
Among other things, Burda’s innovation conference will take a look at the future of work with Pierre-Dimitri Gore-Coty, European manager at Uber, and journalist and YouTuber Thilo Jung. Will artificial intelligence (AI) help companies become more productive, or will it make the human workforce redundant in the long term? AI professor Jürgen Schmidhuber provides insights into the next generation of artificial intelligence and the evolution of robots.

Focus on Europe
Europe is changing, and experienced a year of turmoil in 2015. A Euro panel on the first day of the conference will therefore consider how competitive Europe is on an international scale. Participants will include Margrethe Vestager (European Commission), Yelp CEO Jeremy Stoppelman and Timotheus Höttges, Chief Executive of Deutsche Telekom

WhatsApp and TV on demand
The second day will ask “What’s up, WhatsApp?” as Jan Koum returns two years after appearing at DLDand selling the app to Facebook to provide an insight into the company’s success strategy.

The second day will also see Robert Kyncl, Chief Business Officer at YouTube, and Reed Hastings, CEO of Netflix, discuss the future of TV. At last week’s CES trade show in Las Vegas, Netflix announced that it will be available in 190 countries in future.

Pioneers and visionaries
Oxford professor and philosopher Luciano Floridi caused a sensation with his theory of a “fourth revolution”. He will join philosopher Peter Sloterdijk and Peter Weibel, Chairman of the Center for Art and Media (ZKM), to discuss what happens when the boundaries between online and offline become blurred.

Further pioneers and visionaries to be welcomed to the DLD conference in Munich include author Jeremy Rifkin, who has predicted the end of capitalism, and Harvard professor Niall Ferguson, who lectures on networks and hierarchies. Digital strategist Don Tapscott will also appear at DLD16 to explain how blockchain technology will revolutionise not just FinTech, but the entire internet.
