(PRESS RELEASE) LUXEMBOURG, 24-May-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — The European Investment Bank (EIB), the lending arm of the European Union, announces that the EIB Institute’s Social Innovation Tournament, a prestigious event recognizing and supporting Europe’s most impactful social entrepreneurs, has announced its 15 finalists for the 2023 edition. Representing 10 countries, these finalists have been chosen from a pool of 284 candidates from 33 eligible countries, making it a highly competitive selection process.

The finalists’ innovative solutions address a wide range of social, ethical, and environmental challenges. Their initiatives encompass areas such as green hydrogen, early dementia detection, inclusive housing access, and cultural heritage preservation. This year’s cohort includes participants from Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Malta (marking its debut in the 12 editions of the SIT), Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.

To support the finalists in refining their proposals, a tailor-made training program will be provided. This comprehensive program includes a mentoring bootcamp, online coaching sessions, and rehearsal days, offering invaluable guidance and preparation. On September 27, the finalists will present their solutions to a jury of social innovation experts from academia and the business world in an exclusive event (by invitation only). The following day, on September 28, the public will have the opportunity to witness the presentations at the Spark Moments and Awards Ceremony, which is an open event.

This year, the final events will be hosted in Stockholm, Sweden, providing an ideal setting to showcase the groundbreaking work of these social entrepreneurs.

During the ceremony, five prizes will be awarded, including the General Category and Special Category 1st and 2nd Prizes, amounting to €100,000 and €40,000, respectively. Additionally, there will be an Audience Choice Award of €10,000. Notably, the Special Category Prizes for this year will be awarded to projects focusing on solutions for sustainable cities and communities.

One of the benefits of being a finalist in the Social Innovation Tournament is the automatic membership in the SIT Alumni Network. This prestigious network provides access to various training opportunities, an innovation grants program, and participation in conferences across Europe. Moreover, finalists have the chance to connect with investors, venture philanthropists, and foundations who can help them scale their impact and contribute to their continued success.

The EIB Institute’s Social Innovation Tournament continues to showcase the remarkable efforts of social entrepreneurs in driving positive change and fostering innovative solutions for a better future in Europe.
