EIB Group Strengthens Global Financial Partnerships and Investment Initiatives at 2026 IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings

(IN BRIEF) The European Investment Bank Group will take part in the 2026 IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C., led by President Nadia Calviño and Vice-President Ambroise Fayolle. The delegation will engage with global financial institutions and development partners to strengthen cooperation among multilateral development banks and support financial stability during a period of geopolitical uncertainty. Key announcements are expected to include participation in a global water security initiative, new EU-backed health investments in Africa, and expanded collaboration across development finance institutions. The programme also includes high-level policy discussions and continued engagement in Ukraine through investment and infrastructure support.

(PRESS RELEASE) LUXEMBOURG, 10-Apr-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — The European Investment Bank Group is preparing to take part in the 2026 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group in Washington, D.C., with a delegation led by g. The visit will bring together multilateral development banks and international partners to advance cooperation aimed at strengthening financial stability, fostering sustainable growth, and addressing global challenges.

The meetings will serve as a platform for reinforcing collaboration across the multilateral development banking community, particularly in light of ongoing geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty. A key focus will be on enhancing coordination among institutions to build a stronger global financial safety net and improve the effectiveness of collective action at scale.

During the gathering, the EIB is expected to introduce several initiatives developed in partnership with international stakeholders. These include participation in “Water Forward,” a global effort designed to improve water security, as well as new European Union-backed support measures to strengthen healthcare resilience in Africa and expand vaccine manufacturing capacity. In addition, the Bank will outline further steps to deepen cooperation with other multilateral development banks.

On 15 April, President Calviño will also participate in the 9th Ukraine Ministerial Roundtable, reflecting the EIB’s continued engagement as a key investment partner to Ukraine. The Bank has recently delivered record levels of financing to support the country, with particular emphasis on strengthening energy security and infrastructure resilience.

Alongside the official programme, President Calviño will contribute to several high-level policy discussions. These include a session hosted by Brookings Institution focused on shared investment priorities, an event organised by the Atlantic Council examining Europe’s financial strategy in uncertain times, and participation in development finance discussions at the Devex Impact House summit.

Highlighting the importance of collaboration, Calviño emphasized that stronger partnerships among multilateral development banks are essential to addressing global instability. She underscored the EIB Group’s role as the financial arm of the European Union and reaffirmed its commitment to working collectively with international partners to promote resilience, stability, and sustainable development worldwide.
