Egypt partners with DNV, Siemens and Enxpert to modernize 7,000 km pipeline network with digital technologies

(IN BRIEF) EGPC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with DNV, Siemens, and Enxpert Energy to digitally modernize Egypt’s 7,000 km petroleum pipeline network. The three-phase program will introduce Digital Twin models, predictive analytics, theft detection, and real-time monitoring through DNV’s Synergi Pipeline Simulator, strengthening operational safety and efficiency. EGPC CEO Salah Abdel Karim highlighted the project’s importance for Egypt’s role as a regional energy hub, while DNV’s Tony Alfano emphasized the impact of advanced digital tools on safe and sustainable pipeline management. The agreement, signed in Cairo with senior leaders from all partners, marks one of the most significant infrastructure initiatives in the region, positioning Egypt at the forefront of digital innovation in energy transport.

(PRESS RELEASE) BÆRUM, 25-Aug-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Egypt has taken a decisive step toward modernizing its national energy infrastructure as the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Digital Solutions at DNV, Siemens, and Enxpert Energy. The agreement outlines a strategic plan to bring advanced digital technologies to more than 7,000 kilometres of petroleum pipelines operated by the Petroleum Pipeline Company (PPC), one of the largest systems of its kind in the Middle East.

The modernization program will be implemented in three phases and is designed to improve safety, strengthen reliability, and enhance efficiency across the pipeline network. Using DNV’s Synergi Pipeline Simulator and Digital Twin technology, the initiative will introduce predictive analytics, real-time monitoring, theft detection, and optimized linepack management. Together, these capabilities will allow EGPC to take proactive measures in managing risks and responding to operational challenges, creating a smarter and more resilient pipeline system.

“By modernizing our pipeline operations, we are reinforcing Egypt’s role as a central hub for petroleum transport and storage,” said Eng. Salah Abdel Karim, CEO of EGPC. “This collaboration with Siemens, DNV, and Enxpert Energy marks a turning point for our infrastructure, helping us achieve higher safety standards, reduce losses, and move toward long-term operational excellence.”

For DNV, the partnership demonstrates the company’s vision of accelerating digital transformation within the energy sector. “We are honored to support EGPC in this landmark project,” said Tony Alfano, Pipeline Product Line Director, Digital Solutions at DNV. “Our technologies will not only create a virtual model of the network for advanced analysis, but also deliver real-time oversight that ensures safer, more efficient and sustainable pipeline operations.”

The MOU was signed at EGPC’s headquarters in the presence of senior representatives from all partners. Among them were Mr. Thomas Renju representing DNV, Mr. Mostafa El-Bagoury, CEO of Siemens Egypt, and Mr. Osama Elsaadawy, CEO of Enxpert Energy, alongside EGPC leadership including Eng. Ayman Abdel Badi, Vice President for Transport and Distribution, and Dr. Tamer Ayash, Assistant CEO for HSE. Their participation highlighted the national importance of the project as part of Egypt’s broader infrastructure modernization agenda.

By integrating advanced digital tools with decades of operational expertise, the collaboration positions Egypt to set new benchmarks in pipeline safety and efficiency. The project not only supports the country’s growing role as an energy hub but also paves the way for sustainable, technology-driven practices in petroleum transport across the region
