The initiative connects a prominent European e-methanol producer with industrial buyers, offering a transparent route for securing stable, long-term supplies of this critical low-carbon energy carrier.

As Europe accelerates its energy transition, demand for renewable fuels capable of decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors—such as shipping, aviation, and heavy industry—continues to climb. Among the range of e-fuels, e-methanol has emerged as a technically mature, scalable, and economically feasible option. Manufactured from renewable hydrogen and captured biogenic carbon, it not only aligns with the European Union’s regulatory frameworks including RED III, Fit for 55, EU ETS, ReFuelEU Aviation, and FuelEU Maritime, but also supports the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) decarbonization roadmap.

Renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBOs) are rapidly becoming a key pillar of national decarbonization strategies across Europe. Countries such as Germany, France, Spain, and Belgium have either introduced or are proposing ambitious blending mandates that surpass EU-wide minimum requirements—some even doubling or quadrupling them. However, tightening biofuel regulations and feedstock limitations are driving supply constraints and price increases, underlining the need for alternative renewable fuel pathways. Reliable, verifiable sourcing remains one of the industry’s main hurdles.

To address this gap, DNV has structured a transparent and competitive tender on behalf of a European e-methanol producer to secure long-term offtake agreements for RFNBO-certified volumes across the EU and UK. The tender aims to provide industrial users, maritime operators, and traders with dependable, regulation-compliant fuel supply contracts, offering price stability and minimizing compliance risk. Open to companies committed to achieving net-zero and sustainable sourcing goals, the tender creates a direct channel for accessing certified e-methanol volumes.

The tender process will proceed in two phases: an initial non-binding qualification stage to identify serious prospective offtakers, followed by direct negotiations between shortlisted buyers and the producer. This structured framework boosts market confidence and lays the groundwork for e-methanol to evolve into a bankable, tradeable commodity. The offered product will fully comply with RED III and the RFNBO Delegated Acts from project inception, with production expected to begin in the second half of 2028. Flexible delivery options will be available to offtakers throughout the EU and UK.
