EBRD Appoints Jelena Madir as New Chief Compliance Officer to Uphold Integrity and Governance

(IN BRIEF) The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has named Jelena Madir as the new Managing Director and Chief Compliance Officer. In this crucial role, she will oversee the Office of the Chief Compliance Officer (OCCO), tasked with upholding the highest standards of integrity and good governance across all EBRD activities. Ms. Madir, who assumes her position on October 2, 2023, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having joined the EBRD in 2009. Her prior responsibilities included serving as Director and Chief Counsel in the Financial Law Unit of the Legal Transition team, where she led advisory services related to corporate governance, fintech, insolvency, restructuring, and access to finance. In 2019, Ms. Madir took on the role of General Counsel at Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, where she played a pivotal role in establishing and managing the Covid-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) Facility, a global initiative for the development, production, and distribution of Covid-19 vaccines to over 160 countries. Ms. Madir assumes her position following the departure of Bernd Träxler, the former Chief Compliance Officer. (PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 30-Sep-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Jelena Madir has been appointed as the new Managing Director, Chief Compliance Officer for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). In this role, she will lead the Office of the Chief Compliance Officer (OCCO) and will be responsible for promoting good governance and the highest standards of integrity across all activities of the Bank. She will take up her new position on 2 October 2023.

Ms Madir joined the EBRD in 2009. Her most recent role was as Director, Chief Counsel in the Financial Law Unit of the Legal Transition team, where she successfully led a team providing advisory services in the areas of corporate governance, fintech, insolvency and restructuring, and access to finance.

In 2019 Ms Madir joined Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, taking up the role of General Counsel. In this role she was instrumental in setting up and operating the Covid-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) Facility, a global programme for the development, production and distribution of Covid-19 vaccines to over 160 countries.

As Managing Director, Chief Compliance Officer, Ms Madir replaces Bernd Träxler, who left the EBRD recently.
