(PRESS RELEASE) SOLNA, 7-May-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — AFRY has signed a new framework agreement with Svenska Kraftnät to provide IT-related services supporting the development and modernization of Sweden’s electricity transmission system. The agreement strengthens the long-standing relationship between the two organizations and marks the first IT-focused collaboration between them.

Under the framework agreement, AFRY will deliver development, design and quality assurance services connected to critical digital systems used within Sweden’s national electricity infrastructure. The company was selected as one of six final suppliers following a two-stage procurement process conducted by Svenska Kraftnät.

The Swedish transmission system operator is currently undertaking major investments to expand and modernize the country’s power grid in response to rising electricity demand, energy transition goals and the increasing importance of secure and resilient infrastructure. Through the new agreement, Svenska Kraftnät will gain access to AFRY’s expertise in system design, testing, secure operations and digital development for mission-critical infrastructure.

According to the companies, the collaboration will focus on improving digital systems connected to the electricity transmission network, including solutions related to secure operations, user experience and the identification of technical and operational requirements during early project stages.

Fredrik Persson said the agreement reflects AFRY’s ability to combine expertise across energy systems, power grids and information technology to support the efficiency and security of critical infrastructure. He added that the company is proud to continue its more than 30-year collaboration with Svenska Kraftnät while expanding the partnership into the IT services sector.

The agreement has a maximum value of approximately SEK 2.3 billion, although the actual value attributable to AFRY will depend on the volume and type of services procured during the contract period. The framework agreement is scheduled to enter into force during the second quarter of 2026.

Initially, the contract will run for three years, with an option allowing Svenska Kraftnät to extend the agreement for an additional five years. The long-term structure of the agreement reflects the scale and strategic importance of Sweden’s ongoing electricity grid expansion and digital modernization efforts.

The partnership also highlights the growing convergence between traditional energy infrastructure and advanced digital technologies as grid operators increasingly rely on secure, intelligent and scalable IT systems to support energy transition initiatives and maintain stable electricity supply networks.

AFRY provides engineering, project management, and advisory services that enable the energy and industrial transition and strengthen resilience in society.
