Evonik Unveils Sustainable Feed Innovations and Carbon Footprint Reductions at Eurotier 2024

By sharing life cycle assessments for products such as Ecobiol® and GuanAMINO®, and publishing the carbon footprint for Biolys®, Evonik aims to demonstrate the environmental impact of its solutions. Notable findings include how Ecobiol® can significantly reduce carbon emissions in chicken meat production. Evonik also showcased its full range of feed solutions and recent launches, emphasizing its commitment to sustainability in animal nutrition.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESSEN, 8-Nov-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — At Eurotier 2024, Evonik is spotlighting its advancements in feed ingredients and feeding solutions designed to enhance the sustainability of animal protein production. The company is emphasizing its pioneering role as the first feed ingredient manufacturer to offer comprehensive life cycle assessments for products like Ecobiol® (a probiotic) and GuanAMINO® (guanidinoacetic acid) while also publishing the carbon footprint for Biolys® (lysine).

“Driving innovation in sustainable animal nutrition is a core commitment for us,” states Dr. Gaetano Blanda, head of Evonik’s Animal Nutrition business line. “As industry leaders, we’re now able to provide quantifiable evidence of the environmental benefits our products bring.”

Evonik’s “product handprint” concept, which measures the reduction in environmental impact through product use, is a focal point of this initiative. For instance, each 25-kilogram bag of Ecobiol® has a carbon footprint of 2.1 kg CO₂ equivalent. When used in broiler feed, it can lower the carbon impact of chicken production by approximately 1,800 kg CO₂ equivalent.

The company also shared that MetAMINO® (DL-methionine) has a carbon footprint estimated to be 35% lower than the industry average, a reflection of Evonik’s decades-long improvements in methionine production processes. With large-scale methionine production facilities located in Europe, the United States, and Singapore, Evonik supports a diversified global supply chain for feed markets. This year, facilities in Singapore have been upgraded, and a new precursor plant is underway in Mobile, Alabama.

Evonik’s booth at Eurotier will also showcase recent product innovations aimed at specific animal nutrition needs, including NexAMINO® for insect feed, PhytriCare® IM with high flavonoid content for plant-based diets, and SpeoCare®, a butyric acid that supports gut health.
