(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 15-Jan-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Vattenfall, a Swedish government-owned multinational power company, announces that its CEO, Anna Borg, and Chairman of the Board, Mats Granryd, are set to join global leaders at the World Economic Forum’s 54th Annual Meeting in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, from January 15 to 19. This year’s theme, “Rebuilding Trust,” focuses on four interlinked priorities, including a long-term strategy for climate, nature, and energy. Anna Borg will engage in roundtables and meetings with stakeholders from industry, government, customers, partners, and suppliers.

Borg emphasizes that the energy transition presents extensive opportunities for businesses and society, aligning climate goals with business objectives requires collaborative efforts across sectors. She underscores the importance of maintaining focus on long-term goals amid challenging times. Vattenfall aims to accelerate the shift toward fossil-free energy, making the World Economic Forum an essential platform for collaboration.

“The energy transition is big, includes many parts of businesses and society and will happen over a long time. But it also comes with many business opportunities. To reach both climate targets and business goals – businesses, politics and society need to work together. When things are rocky it is easy to get distracted, so we need to make sure we don’t lose sight of the long-term goals. The World Economic Forum’s annual meeting is a valuable forum to interact with others to move the needle towards fossil freedom,” Anna Borg says.

The First Movers Coalition (FMC), launched at COP26 with support from US President Biden and the World Economic Forum, is a key initiative in this effort. It leverages the purchasing power of leading companies to decarbonize challenging industries, with USD 15 billion in aggregated demand for emerging climate technologies and backing from 13 governments representing over 50% of global GDP.

Mats Granryd highlights the World Economic Forum’s commitment to fostering dialogue, partnerships, and collaborations, acknowledging that the energy transition, akin to the industrial revolution, requires collective action. Vattenfall, as a founding member, commits to decarbonizing four sectors: Steel, Cement, Aviation, and Trucking.

Anna Borg will participate in a live-streamed panel discussion titled “First Movers for Frontier Clean Technologies” on January 16, exploring lessons learned and future prospects in advancing clean technologies. The panel includes John Kerry, U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, among other prominent figures.
