(PRESS RELEASE) BERLIN, 1-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — On October 1, 2024, the World Economic Forum (WEF) and GovTech Campus Deutschland celebrated the grand opening of the Global Government Technology Centre (GGTC) in Berlin, Germany. This innovative centre is the first of its kind in a G7 country and aims to drive the global digital transformation of government services. The GGTC is part of the WEF’s Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) Network and focuses exclusively on advancing GovTech solutions to enhance public sector efficiency and accessibility.

Designed as a hub for collaboration, the GGTC will bring together government bodies, technology leaders, and policy experts to modernize public services using cutting-edge technologies. The Centre connects Germany’s GovTech ecosystem with global experts, enabling knowledge-sharing and scaling of proven digital solutions that streamline public administration and service delivery.

At the official inauguration, Børge Brende, President of the World Economic Forum, and Dr. Markus Richter, Germany’s Federal Government Commissioner for Information Technology, emphasized the Centre’s pivotal role in fostering innovation and providing actionable insights for governments worldwide. The GGTC will act as a space for collaboration, policy development, and experimentation with emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, and Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality.

“The Global Government Technology Centre in Berlin will empower governments to embrace digital transformation and create more inclusive societies,” said Børge Brende. The Centre’s work is underpinned by a growing global directory of GovTech use cases, offering examples from organizations like the UN World Food Programme and governments from Ukraine, the UAE, and Amarillo, Texas.

Markus Richter highlighted the importance of international collaboration, stating, “We need to unlock the massive potential of digital technologies across governments and accelerate priority digital transformation activities.”

Founding partners, including the State of Berlin and Capgemini, will contribute their expertise in governance and technology to support the Centre’s ongoing development, further expanding its reach to more partners worldwide.
