Vestas to Power RWE’s 900 MW Nordseecluster B, Advancing Germany’s Offshore Wind Ambition

(IN BRIEF) Vestas has secured a firm order to supply 60 V236-15.0 MW wind turbines for RWE’s Nordseecluster B offshore wind project in the German North Sea. This 900 MW project forms the second phase of the 1.56 GW Nordseecluster, complementing the 660 MW Phase A announced earlier in 2024. Located 50 kilometers north of Juist Island, turbine installation is set for 2028, with commercial operations starting in early 2029. Vestas will also provide a 5-year service agreement and long-term operational support. The Nordseecluster contributes significantly to Europe’s renewable energy targets and showcases the collaboration between Vestas and RWE to advance clean energy solutions.

(PRESS RELEASE) HAMBURG, 2-Dec-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Vestas has received a firm order to supply, deliver, and commission 60 of its V236-15.0 MW wind turbines for RWE’s 900 MW Nordseecluster B offshore wind project in the German North Sea. The turbines will contribute to the second phase of the Nordseecluster, which, when combined with the 660 MW Phase A announced earlier in 2024, will bring the total capacity of the cluster to 1.56 GW.

Located approximately 50 kilometers north of Juist Island, the Nordseecluster represents a major step forward in Europe’s offshore wind sector. Vestas will also provide a 5-year service agreement for the project, followed by long-term operational support to ensure the turbines’ efficient performance throughout their lifecycle.

Nils de Baar, President of Vestas Northern & Central Europe, emphasized the importance of the project:
“We are proud to play a key role in this landmark offshore wind development. Our ongoing partnership with RWE demonstrates the strength of collaboration in advancing clean energy solutions. The Nordseecluster will further solidify our shared commitment to a sustainable energy future.”

Thomas Michel, Chief Operating Officer of RWE Offshore Wind, highlighted the strategic importance of the project:
“With Nordseecluster B, we are advancing toward a total of 4.8 GW of offshore wind capacity under construction. Working with trusted supply chain partners like Vestas is critical to achieving these ambitious goals. We are excited to collaborate on this project to drive progress in Germany’s renewable energy landscape.”

Project Timeline and Impact

The Nordseecluster is being developed in two phases. Phase A, which includes 44 V236-15.0 MW turbines, was confirmed as a firm order in mid-2024. Installation for Phase B turbines is scheduled for 2028, with commercial operations expected to commence in early 2029.

This offshore wind farm is a key component of Germany’s renewable energy strategy, supporting the transition to cleaner power and contributing significantly to the region’s energy independence. With this project, Vestas and RWE continue to demonstrate their leadership in delivering innovative, large-scale renewable energy solutions.
