Leaders from both Stora Enso and FIS emphasized the shared values behind the partnership, the close link between Nordic skiing and nature, and the special significance of returning to Falun, a location tied closely to both skiing tradition and Stora Enso’s heritage.

(PRESS RELEASE) HELSINKI, 19-Dec-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Stora Enso has confirmed its continued collaboration with the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships by signing on as a Premium Partner for the 2027 edition, set to take place in Falun, Sweden. The agreement extends a long-standing relationship between the global renewable materials company and international Nordic skiing, reinforcing their shared commitment to sustainability and responsible event development.

The Falun 2027 partnership represents the seventh time Stora Enso has supported the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. Over the past decade, the company has played a prominent role in multiple editions of the event, serving as presenting sponsor in Trondheim in 2025, Planica in 2023, Oberstdorf in 2021, Seefeld in 2019, and Lahti in 2017, as well as acting as main sponsor when the championships were last held in Falun in 2015.

According to Stora Enso President and CEO Hans Sohlström, the renewed collaboration reflects both strategic and emotional ties to Nordic skiing. He highlighted the close relationship between the sport and the natural environment, noting that the championships provide an effective platform to showcase how renewable materials sourced from sustainably managed forests can be used in real-world applications. The return to Falun, where Stora Enso has a strong operational presence and deep historical roots, further strengthens the significance of the partnership.

As a Premium Partner for Falun 2027, Stora Enso will supply a range of renewable, wood-based, and recyclable solutions designed to support the delivery of a more sustainable global sporting event. These contributions will include wooden infrastructure elements, catering and service products, as well as environmentally responsible prizes and promotional items. Through these applications, the company aims to demonstrate how renewable materials can effectively replace fossil-based alternatives at large-scale international events.

FIS President Johan Eliasch described Stora Enso’s involvement as a model of purpose-driven partnership, emphasizing how the company’s long-term commitment and innovative material solutions help position major sporting events as drivers of sustainable change. He added that hosting the championships in Falun, a location deeply associated with both Nordic skiing heritage and Stora Enso’s legacy, reinforces a shared ambition for environmental leadership and responsible growth within the sport.

FIS Chief Commercial Director Christian Salomon echoed these sentiments, noting that Stora Enso has become closely associated with the identity of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. He underlined that the partnership reflects FIS’s broader vision of working with organizations that not only support snow sports, but also align with its values, particularly the ongoing push toward more sustainable and future-focused event solutions.
