ORLEN Group Commences Low-Carbon Oil Production at Tyrving Field on Norwegian Continental Shelf

(IN BRIEF) ORLEN Group has started oil production at the Tyrving field on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, which has an estimated 25 million barrels of recoverable reserves. This new production site, added to ORLEN’s portfolio of 20 active fields in Norway, is notable for its exceptionally low carbon footprint of 0.3 kg of CO2 per barrel. The project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget, thanks to strong collaboration between partners Aker BP, Petoro, and PGNiG Upstream Norway.

(PRESS RELEASE) PŁOCK, 3-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — ORLEN Group has successfully begun oil production from the Tyrving field on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, marking a significant milestone in its expansion within the North Sea. The Tyrving field, comprising three discoveries—Trell, Trine, and Trell North—boasts estimated reserves of 25 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe) and is expected to sustain production for approximately 15 years.

The startup of production at Tyrving adds to ORLEN’s growing portfolio of assets in Norway, bringing the total number of active fields to 20. The field is projected to peak at a daily production rate of 20,000 boe, contributing significantly to ORLEN’s output. Notably, the carbon footprint of production at Tyrving is exceptionally low, at just 0.3 kg of CO2 per barrel, far below the average on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

The success of the Tyrving project is attributed to the strong collaboration between license partners Aker BP (operator), Petoro, and PGNiG Upstream Norway, a subsidiary of ORLEN Group. Through effective teamwork, the project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget, a rare achievement in the industry.

Tyrving’s development aligns with PGNiG Upstream Norway’s strategic approach of clustering operations around key production hubs, utilizing existing infrastructure to enhance efficiency and reduce costs. The field is tied to the Alvheim floating production, storage, and offloading unit (FPSO), which also services other nearby fields operated by ORLEN, such as Skogul and Vilje.

This development underscores ORLEN Group’s commitment to sustainable energy practices, with Tyrving’s ultra-low carbon footprint serving as a benchmark for future projects in the region.
