  • Norway is a key growth area for OMV

VIENNA, 22-7-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — The start of the Summer Grand Prix in Wisla/Poland on 25 July 2014 will mark Norway’s national ski jumping team’s first official appearance with their new sponsor, OMV. Norway is one of OMV’s most important growth areas.

OMV´s international sports sponsoring focuses on ski jumping. With its commitment to Norway, the company is supporting local business, as well as strengthening the awareness on the local market. “We have partnered the Austrian ski jumping team for 25 years and are also involved in the national teams of other countries. With this, we are helping athletes to achieve peak performance. Another focal point is supporting up-and-coming athletes”, said Gerhard Roiss, OMV CEO. He added, “Norway is a country with massive potential for OMV in the exploration and production of oil and gas. We have been active there for eight years and massively consolidated our position there last year.”

In future the OMV logo will be displayed on the ski jumping kit of Norway’s female athletes, as well as on the helmets, skis and training kit of the male team. The cooperation also involves targeted sponsorship of youth projects in Norway. The contract runs until 2016.
Background information:

OMV and ski jumping
OMV has been a team sponsor in Austria since 1989. A partnership with the Czech Republic’s national ski association started in 2004, followed by cooperation in Slovenia in 2005. It is crucial to work with up-and-coming athletes professionally and early on to maintain long-term success. OMV supports sustainable projects in this area, thereby securing future achievements. “OMV Move & Jump” was launched in autumn 2007; this project gives youngsters in Romania the chance to practice ski jumping and offers these athletes new opportunities all the way to becoming top professionals.

2011 marked a further milestone. OMV entered an FIS partnership as the main sponsor of the newly introduced Women’s World Cup. In addition, OMV sponsors major international events such as ski flying at Kulm, the World Cup final in Planica, the World Cup at the famous Holmenkollen, as well as regular ski flying world championships. The cooperation with the Norwegian ski association is now the fifth partnership with a national ski jumping team, allowing OMV to underline its commitment as a long-term ski jumping sponsor, now the largest in the world.
