New Swiss Liaison Prosecutor Takes Up Role at Eurojust

(PRESS RELEASE) THE HAGUE, 2-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Eurojust, an agency of the European Union dealing with judicial co-operation in criminal matters among agencies of the member states, announces that today, Mr. Philip Schotland officially assumed his responsibilities as the new Liaison Prosecutor for Switzerland at Eurojust. Succeeding Mr. Sébastien Fetter, Mr. Schotland brings a wealth of experience in cross-border judicial cooperation, having previously served as Deputy Liaison Prosecutor at the Swiss bureau within the Agency. His tenure as the Swiss judiciary’s primary representative at Eurojust is set to run until May 2026.

Mr. Schotland’s legal career has been marked by his extensive work in serious crime investigations and organized crime cases. Prior to joining Eurojust in 2022, he served as a public prosecutor in the canton of Basel-City and gained valuable expertise in international judicial collaboration.

A graduate of Basel University with a Master of Law, Mr. Schotland is no stranger to The Hague, having completed an internship at the Swiss embassy in 2012. His professional journey includes roles at a private law firm and the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Basel, further solidifying his legal expertise.

Fluent in German, French, and English, Mr. Schotland also holds a position as a major in the Swiss Armed Forces, where he is connected to the office of the Armed Forces Attorney General.

Switzerland is one of twelve non-EU countries that maintain a Liaison Prosecutor at Eurojust under a Cooperation Agreement, facilitating vital cross-border legal collaboration with EU Member States.

Other countries with Liaison Prosecutors at Eurojust include Albania, Georgia, Iceland, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
