MAPFRE strengthens technology and AI leadership with new structure led by Group Chief Technology and Data Officer Vanessa Escrivá

(IN BRIEF) MAPFRE has restructured its leadership framework to increase the strategic weight of technology, data and AI in the organisation. With the closure of the Corporate Operational Transformation Area at year-end, Vanessa Escrivá will become Group Chief Technology and Data Officer, leading a new unit that integrates Corporate Data and MAPFRE’s AI strategy, reporting directly to the chairman and CEO. The remaining operations of the former transformation area will move under First Vice Chairman José Manuel Inchausti, while José Antonio Arias will take charge of the newly unified Corporate Real Estate and Resources division, reporting to CFO José Luis Jiménez Guajardo-Fajardo. Additional structural changes include updates to CATIT membership, the expansion of MAPFRE’s executive committee, new senior expert appointments within security and strategic transformation, and the formal confirmation of María de los Ángeles Santamaría to board-level committees. The reshaping of leadership reflects MAPFRE’s intention to fast-track digitalisation, scale AI adoption and strengthen data-led business growth across the group.

(PRESS RELEASE) MADRID, 28-Nov-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — MAPFRE has announced a major organisational restructuring designed to strengthen the role of technology, data and artificial intelligence at the core of its global strategy. As part of this shift, the company will dissolve its Corporate Operational Transformation Area on December 31, positioning technology as a direct strategic pillar under the oversight of both the chairman and the CEO.

From January 1, Vanessa Escrivá García will become Group Chief Technology and Data Officer, leading a newly configured area that will integrate Corporate Data — directed by Maribel Solanas — along with MAPFRE’s full AI strategy. The aim is to accelerate data-driven decision-making, expand digital capabilities and maximise the strategic value of information assets across the organisation. This new area will report directly to MAPFRE’s highest executive authority.

Chairman and CEO Antonio Huertas emphasised that technology plays a decisive role in creating value within an insurance group serving more than 30 million clients worldwide. He acknowledged the strong contributions achieved through the company’s transformation journey and highlighted MAPFRE’s intention to further advance technological adoption, AI implementation and operational digitalisation — always with human-centric oversight at the foundation.

The removal of the Corporate Operational Transformation Area — which has met the objectives set when established — also simplifies MAPFRE’s structure in order to increase efficiency. Oversight of its remaining non-technology functions will transfer to First Vice Chairman José Manuel Inchausti.

As part of this transition, José Antonio Arias, who previously led the transformation area, will assume leadership of the newly consolidated Corporate Real Estate and Resources division on January 1. This division will fall under the direction of Chief Financial Officer José Luis Jiménez Guajardo-Fajardo. MAPFRE reports that Arias’s experience and strategic capability will be central to advancing this new business unit, which is considered strategically significant for the group.

The transformation also extends to MAPFRE’s Technology, Innovation, and Transformation Advisory Council (CATIT). Vanessa Escrivá will join the council as a new member, while Leire Jiménez Ayesa becomes its secretary in addition to her existing role.

MAPFRE will expand its executive committee to include Raúl Costilla Prieto, Group Chief Business Officer, together with Vanessa Escrivá as the new Group Chief Technology and Data Officer.

Additional leadership appointments include:

  • José Antonio Ledesma, currently Group Head of Procurement, will move into the Corporate Security Area on March 30 as Security Control Manager, a position created in response to heightened regulatory and operational complexity in insurance markets.
  • José Luis Bernal, Chief Digital, Data and Innovation Officer at MAPFRE USA, will become an appointed expert dedicated to strengthening major transformation initiatives globally. He will report to Alfredo Castelo, Group Chief People, Strategy and Sustainability Officer.

The Board of Directors has also formalised further appointments, confirming María de los Ángeles Santamaría as a member of both the Risks, Sustainability and Compliance Committee and the Appointments and Remuneration Committee, replacing outgoing representatives.
