Loughborough University Recognised for Sustainability Leadership and Sports Research Podcast at Industry Awards

(IN BRIEF) Loughborough University has been shortlisted in two categories at the 2026 Sports Industry Awards, recognising achievements in environmental sustainability and sports communication. The Environmental Sustainability nomination highlights climate-focused initiatives across the University’s sports facilities, including the decarbonisation of its swimming pool and partnerships with organisations such as Carbon Jacked, Veritree and Trash Free Trails. The University’s Experts in Sport podcast has also been shortlisted for the Sports Podcast Award for its role in sharing research-based insights with the sports community in the UK and internationally. The awards ceremony will take place on 30 April as part of the event’s 25th anniversary celebrations.

(PRESS RELEASE) LOUGHBOROUGH, 24-Feb-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Loughborough University has been shortlisted in two categories at the 2026 Sports Industry Awards, which this year marks its 25th anniversary and continues to recognise outstanding achievements across the sports sector.

The University has been named among the finalists in the Environmental Sustainability category in recognition of its efforts to deliver a more sustainable sporting environment across its campus. The submission highlights a range of climate-positive initiatives designed to reduce environmental impact, including the decarbonisation of the University’s swimming pool and broader sustainability improvements within its sports facilities.

The entry also emphasises Loughborough’s collaborative approach through partnerships with Carbon Jacked, Veritree and Trash Free Trails, which contribute to increased environmental impact and improved transparency in sustainability initiatives.

Loughborough University has also been shortlisted for the Sports Podcast Award for its Experts in Sport podcast. The series connects academic research with professional sports practice by delivering evidence-based insights to audiences in the United Kingdom and internationally. The podcast explores a wide range of topics related to sport and health and aims to support informed decision-making across the sporting community.

Professor Jo Maher, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Sport at Loughborough University, welcomed the recognition, noting that being shortlisted in two categories at one of the sector’s most respected award programmes reflects the commitment and expertise of the teams involved.

The winners of the 2026 Sports Industry Awards will be announced on 30 April.
